First Lady of Japan Visits Loggers' Run Middle, as School Introduces Japanese Language Classes
About 200 students were treated to a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity last Tuesday as the First Lady of Japan, Akie Abe, visited Loggers' Run Middle School in Boca Raton.

Abe was greeted with a performance by the school's band and chorus before receiving gifts of artwork from a student and the school's art teacher.

After the presentation, Abe donned a personalized chef's jacket presented to her by the school and took part in a sushi-making demonstration with the school's culinary students.

The tour was quickly planned, and most students didn't know that the artwork they were creating, which included hanging kimonos, trees covered in cherry blossoms, traditional fish prints and Japanese Anime drawings throughout the school, was to welcome the surprise guest.  Abe's visit comes as the school is preparing to introduce Japanese language classes into the curriculum next year.
