Student and Family Resources Clothing Drive:
The annual clothing drive sponsored by Student and Family Resources will continue collecting donations through October 25th. Please bring new or gently used clothing items to any of our collection sites. Available locations include Goods, Flinthills Mall, Dillons, KVOE, Emporia Mainstreet, and Emporia Gazette. Early Resignation/Retirement Notification Incentive:
Any licensed teacher who has worked more than two years in USD 253 who is planning to resign or retire at the end of the school year is eligible to receive an early notification stipend. A written resignation or retirement notice must be submitted to the assistant superintendent of Human Resources. Stipends will be awarded according to the time table below at the end of the contract year.
Written notification received by:
- November 1st would receive $750
- December 1st would receive $500
- January 1st would receive $250

EMS Trick or Trot:
Fall kicked off this week which means crisp air, hot tea and pumpkins are right around the corner! This year our annual Trick or Trot 5k will be held on Saturday, October 26th at Emporia Middle School. You can pre-register by clicking on the following link
Trick or Trot 2019 Registration. On-site registration/check-in will begin at 8:00 AM with the event kicking off at 9:00 AM.

EHS students attended the Emporia High School College Planning Conference and Career Fair to learn about post-secondary opportunities that are available to them after graduation.
Board Recognition:
The board recognized Jobs for America's Graduates - Kansas (JAG-K) career specialist Ali Macias and Rigo Aguirre from Emporia High School. Under their leadership, the JAG program once again received the prestigious 5 of 5 Performance Outcomes Award from JAG National for meeting or exceeding the five most critical performance measures.

Board Updates:
Logan Avenue Redesign
- Teachers and students from Logan Avenue presented on the schools' progress and success towards redesign. The group lead board members and those in attendance through team activities where they could connect, unite, and de-stress. Teachers then presented the Logan Avenue mission and vision, provided redesign short term goals and long term goals, and shared a video of their school song. Principal Jessica Griffin also shared the positive results they are already seeing in test scores and the family-oriented learning environment that redesign activities are creating. The group closed their presentation by answering questions from board members regarding redesign opportunities and future plans.

Early Learning Facility Priorities -
Teachers and administrators along with representatives from HTK Architects recently toured four early learning facilities in the Kansas City area. The tours provided the opportunity to see how the landscape of early learning is changing and supported the common themes that have developed during the beginning stages of gathering stakeholder feedback for a new learning facility.
Principal Keva Scheib, teachers Tessa Santangalo and Shellie Bair, and instructional coach Michelle Young, shared their views and highlights of the facilities they toured. There are many common themes of those buildings that they would like to see incorporated into a new early learning facility. Some of those themes include:
- generous common, special services, and collaboration space
- natural elements in color, lighting, and design
- ample storage space
- separate library space
- playground equipment accessible from multiple entries
- open and welcoming entry
- size appropriate restrooms
- safety and security
According to Zach Snethen, HTK Architects, and board members Art Gutierrez and Doug Epp, the tours of these facilities are laying the groundwork for the design process for an early learning facility in Emporia. The district will continue to reach out to other districts for input as the project's direction begins to take shape.

- Community Relations is providing social media reminders to community stakeholders and building principals regarding bond information and facts
- KVOE reported that 232 voters participated in the early voting opportunity at the mall
- open houses concluded this past Sunday, attendance was lite at all buildings
- the general election is on November 5th
