It is December! We have almost made it through this very unexpected year of 2020.
As I was reflecting last week about the things for which I am grateful, high on that list is the MBBC Student Ministry family. I am grateful for you - students, adult leaders, and parents - this community that has weathered these trying times together. Thank you for your faithfulness and flexibility this year as we have endeavored to do ministry and life together as never before.
Recognizing December holds the stress of finals and the hubbub of holiday festivities, we have a scaled back Student Ministry schedule this month. BUT that opens the opportunity for time with our Student Ministry team on your schedule! So, if we can offer a listening ear, a study break snack, or anything else you might need in these days, let us know!
We are now in the season of Advent on the church calendar. I hope, in the midst of all this month holds, you and your family will join us for the special Advent Services - in-person or digitally - and take the time to dive into our Advent Devotional Guide. I think Advent offers us at least two powerful reminders this year.
First, it reminds us that our Lord Jesus is Emmanuel, God With Us. No matter what this next year holds, we do not walk into it alone. Christ Jesus is with us.
Second, it reminds us as St. Benedict said, "Always, we begin again." Though we are not yet through this pandemic, we are always closer to the other side. I trust God will honor your faithfulness and flexibility in this difficult season by doing a new, unexpected, and beautiful thing in our student ministry and in each of us. Our God is a God of new beginnings and fresh starts.
In Christ Jesus, always, we begin again.
Wishing you a meaningful Advent!
Ben
