Private pesticide applicators who were certified through Dec. 31, 2019 can retain their applicator certification status through the 2020 application season. Therefore, they can purchase and apply Restricted Use Products through the 2020 application season.

However, private applicators with a certification expiration date of December 31, 2019 will need to recertify before September 30, 2020.

Private applicators who have used the training option (also known as ISU Extension and Outreach Private Continuing Instructional Courses) to recertify and who have attended training sessions in the 2018-19 and 2017-18 training seasons will need to attend a training session before September 20, 2020. The details on those training sessions will be available in the near future.

Private Continuing Instructional Course Last Chance meetings that offer a DVD viewing to maintain private pesticide certification are scheduled for April 14 and 15 at many county Extension offices. However, the status of these meetings cannot be confirmed at this date because ISU Extension offices are currently closed.

Private applicators with a certification expiration date of December 31, 2019 can also recertify by testing after November 1, 2020 and before the 2021 application season.

Pesticide applicator testing The April to December Test schedule is subject to change (scroll to the bottom of the document). It is likely most of the April and possibly May testing dates will be rescheduled. This includes Primghar on 4/6, Sioux City on 4/13, Mason City on 4/16 and Adel on 4/21. Similar dates are planned for May and June.

All the alternative sites for pesticide testing are closed until further notice. This includes Community College sites in Storm Lake, Fort Dodge, Emmetsburg Mason City and Des Moines.

There are discussions underway on ways to provide testing opportunities for private or commercial applicators who need initial certification, while still practicing social distancing.

Dicamba training is now available only online. Applicators that intend to apply Engenia, FeXapan, Tavium or Xtendimax need to attend an online training session for dicamba .
