This Week at Christ Church
Invite, Welcome, Connect Seminar
This Saturday, October 26 from 9AM-3PM
Church on the Hill -  The McClain Room

Join us this Saturday, October 26, from 9-3 at the Church on the Hill to learn more about Invite, Welcome, Connect. This ministry was developed to help Episcopal Churches utilize tools to grow numerically and spiritually. Our facilitator, Mary MacGregor, from Houston and the Episcopal Diocese of Texas, will spend the day showing us how to make Christ Church more "sticky" for people who visit us and will teach us the power of sharing our faith with others in a comfortable way. High school youth are invited to participate in this great leadership training opportunity as well!

Mary spent her ministry on the Bishop's staff leading Congregational Development. Since retiring, she has traveled the country meeting with Episcopal Churches to help them develop the skills to be more hospitable to visitors by training existing members in the areas of invitation, welcome, and connection. We had ten people attend this seminar at the Cathedral in June and afterwards, everyone agreed we should bring Mary here to introduce this to our parishioners.

You can register below. Lunch and  childcare will be provided.

Please join us for the Annual Campaign Dinner for Christ Church

Please mark your calendars for the Annual Campaign for Christ Church Dinner on Tuesday, October 29 from 6-9PM. If you haven't already received your electronic invitation, please let us know so we can add you to our email database.  You can also RSVP here.

Our Keynote speaker will be the Bishop of Chicago, the Right Reverend Jeffrey Lee.  With his retirement next August, this will be his last keynote address for this event as Bishop.

An Evening with C.S. Lewis

C.S. Lewis, a Christian writer from the 1940's-60's, is a widely appreciated author on the subject of Christianity.  Though many of his books are over 70 years old, most are still in print.  Fifteen of us are studying his
Screwtape Letters Fridays at Holy Caffeine from 8:30-9:30AM in the Lea Room.

David Payne portrays Lewis and captures the essence of the man and his path from atheism to Christianity in a fascinating show spanning the adult years of his life and featuring his friendship with J.R.R. Tolkien.

A group of Christ Church parishioners is planning to attend the showing on Saturday, November 2 at 8PM at the Broadway Theatre downtown.  Come join us!!  Get your tickets on your own at broadwayinchicago.com and email [email protected] if you would like to get together for dinner as a group beforehand.

On All Saints Sunday, We Read the Names of the Faithfully Departed

We pray for all that have died, that they may have a place in God's eternal kingdom.  Please list the names of those you wish prayed for on November 3.

At the 8:00AM service we will read the names of those who have been buried at Christ Church since All Saints Day 2018.

At the 9:30AM service we will read the entire necrology (fancy name for this list) as a group. Each parishioner will be given a list which we will read at the same time. We call it "Pentecost" style.

At the 5:30PM Evensong we will read each name individually. This service is followed by a parish-wide dinner.

  • Aluminum Foil, Plastic Wrap, and Baggies
