FALL BACK -
TIME CHANGE REMINDER FOR SUNDAY NOVEMBER 1st. SET YOUR CLOCKS BACK BEFORE YOU GO TO BED ON SATURDAY NIGHT FOR AN EXTRA HOUR!

Dear Friends in Faith,

We are counting down, praying, and sharing steps you can take to get to Election Day. What can you do today?

JOIN US IN PRAYER
God of mercy, throughout this election season, we are casting our votes in a world filled with fear. Forgive us for those times when fear of the other has brought words of anger out of our mouths, when fear of opposing views has caused us to put hurt into the world. Be with us as we vote to bring your love, compassion, and welcome to all people, as we vote to bring your justice, healing, and mercy into the world, and as we cast our ballots for election outcomes that leave none of your people behind. May your love and forgiveness sustain us. Amen.

PRAYERS FOR OUR FORMER INTERIM CONFERENCE MINISTER

Hello Colleagues.

I have been in touch with Justo Gonzalez, who has been tested positive for the Corona virus. He and his husband James are both positive. Justo has been admitted to a hospital and is in an isolated room. His lungs have developed a pneumonia and they have him on a steroid treatment. I have asked his permission to share this news with you, and he would covet your prayers. Please take a moment and lift him up in your prayers.

Shalom,

Rev. Dr. John C. Dorhauer
General Minister and President

TRINITY'S FALL LEAF RAKING You're invited! PLEASE SIGN-UP.

There are 3 opportunities for us to greet Trinity folks in person ( but NOT up close). It's Leaf Raking Time!   This year Todd Kerschke is inviting us to come to church at 12:30 p.m. on one or all of these Sundays - November 1, November 8, November 15.

Please call the Church Office (847-945-5050) And leave a message letting us know which Sunday you could help. Please bring Masks, Social Distance, and a Rake - all required.   Fun will be provided!

Neighbors in Need

Neighbors in Need (NIN) is a special mission offering of the United Church of Christ that supports ministries of justice and compassion throughout the United States. One-third of NIN funds support the Council for American Indian Ministry (CAIM). Two-thirds of this offering is used by the UCC's Justice and Witness Ministries (JWM) to support a variety of justice initiatives, advocacy efforts, and direct service projects through grants. Neighbors in Need grants are awarded to UCC churches and organizations doing justice work in their communities. These grants fund projects whose work ranges from direct service to community organizing and advocacy to address systemic injustice. This year, special consideration will be given to projects focusing on serving our immigrant neighbors and communities.

Trinity members have been generous in their past support of NIN. Please consider making a contribution again this year. An envelope for contributions will be included in the weekly mailing later this month. In the meantime, checks for this purpose can be sent to the church office. Checks should be made out to Trinity United Church of Christ (or "TUCC") and noting "Neighbors in Need" in the memo section of the check.

Thanks in advance for your support.

Mission Core

As we see our first snowflakes, and the 'stay in place' mandates are on the rise, our Love of Neighbor team voted to make donations to three organizations.

First, we responded to a special opportunity, voting to send Two Hundred Dollars to the Greater Chicago Food Depository. Our donation was matched by another charitable organization dollar for dollar, thus making our donation Four Hundred dollars!  If you wonder "Why Chicago?" I would note that one of the recipients of foods from the GCFD is the Kenwood United Church of Christ Feeding Program.  While the Greater Chicago Food Depository is located in the city, some of their food also goes to other food banks including the Northern Illinois Food Bank.

How does that happen?

All of the food depositories and pantries, such GCFD, NIFB, and our West Deerfield Township Pantry, are members of the umbrella organization "Feeding Illinois". "Feeding Illinois" provides a common venue for communication and support between the member organizations so that when local shortages occur, they can be addressed through the sharing of resources between members.  Finally, as food shortages and needs are national in scope, there is the larger 'umbrella' of "Feeding America" which provides the same opportunities at the national level. The membership includes all of the state-level "Feeding" groups. It is worth noting that at all levels, the "Feeding" organizations are active members of the National Volunteer Organizations Active in Disaster, an organization in which our United Church of Christ also participates.

Our second donation, also for Two Hundred dollars, went to the Safe Haven of Lake County that is located in Libertyville. The Haven serves the needs of women who have escaped, often with their children, from relationships in which they have been battered.
We recently provided the Safe Haven with a catered (delivered) meal of about that same value. Thanks, Marge Magnani, Barbara Reppen, Susan Morgan and Jean Harris!

Our third donation was a similar amount of Two Hundred to the Northern Illinois Food Bank located in Waukegan and serves all of Lake County.

Love of Children has just unveiled a series of fascinating projects and activities for our younger folks. We'll know more about when these will start to happen very soon!  Kate Houston may have been out of town, but she was very busy!

Love of Creation is in the 'winter planning stage' and will present its' ideas around the first of December. Camilla will have more for us before the heavy snows fly.

Meanwhile, Happy Halloween!
Roger

The Love of Neighbors committee has chosen to replace one of it's service projects from PADS, to the Lake County Haven.  Lake County Haven includes Hope House, a women and children's shelter and Renewal House for homeless and/or abused women. Their mission is to provide shelter, transitional housing, case management, counseling, financial management and job coaching.

Their need from us, is to provide lunches and/or dinners for either of the houses.  In August, the committee provided lunches for Renewal House.

We invite all Trinity families and members to become individual participants in the program.  You can go on line at lakecountyhaven.org for more information and to sign up to provide lunch or dinner for either house.

The meals need to be from  a restaurant, caterer or prepackaged items from a grocery store.  Cost is determined by what you provide.  A calendar and information is provided to you when you sign up on their website.

Delivery of meals must be provided by the participants.  Details of the addresses are provided a day or so before delivery.  If you decide to use a Libertyville restaurant, Marge Magnani will be glad to do the pick up and delivery.  Her number is 847-567-0139.

If you'd like to form teams, feel free to do so.  The committee would appreciate you letting them know if you participated.

Fisher Houston's Eagle Scout Project for Trinity Woodland Improvement!

Fisher had 21 volunteers complete approximately 87 hours of Community Service on the church grounds, planting trees, removing buckthorn and rehabilitating trails.  These volunteer hours included 8.5 hours by Todd Kerschke. Todd also served as Fisher's Scout Mentor on our behalf.

Take a walk through the woods some weekend soon to view the work.  (Go on the Saturday or Sunday so you don't have to check in with the Montessori School for contact tracing!)

Thank you, Fisher!
PRAYER FOR THE WEEK   Cameron Trimble

In the midst of our familiar life,
with people we see every day,
wake us up, O God, to see them
with fresh eyes.

Let us see their joy and their pain.
Let us see their love and their loneliness.
And, in seeing it, let us not
turn away.

Amen.
