A massive solar energy project - the biggest in the country - 30 miles East of Reno/Sparks!
NextEra Energy has proposed a 200 megawatt solar energy center for a 1,600 acre area 30 miles East of Reno/Sparks.

The Dodge Flat Solar project will have 1,200 acres of photovoltaic solar fields and a 200 megawatt energy storage system, which would make it the largest facility of its kind in the United States, according to NextEra Energy.

NextEra is the world's largest generator of wind and solar energy. At full build, it would be capable of producing enough electricity to power about 50,000 homes.

County commissioners voted unanimously Tuesday to move the project forward.  "This is a great project."
"This is just the direction that not only our commission but (also) the Governor has tried to push the state in terms of having more renewables," county commissioner Vaughn Hartung said.

Dodge Flat Project Highlights
- 200 MW photovoltaic solar energy facility
- 200 MW energy storage
- Produce approximately 500,000 megawatt-hours of clean, emissions-free power annually
- Energy storage component allows energy to be delivered during non-daylight hours
- Capable of generating enough electricity to power approximately 50,000 homes
- Will avoid approximately 510,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions that would have been produced if the electricity had been generated using fossil fuels

Dodge Flat Attractive Site Attributes
- Excellent solar energy resource, especially for Northern NV
- Existing 345 kV NVE transmission facilities onsite
- Immediately adjacent to SR 447 & Olinghouse Road
- Site has favorable topography
- Located near Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center and Reno Technology Park
