Lifelong Faith Formation Connections

From the heart of our Pastoral Associate...Dr. Kathie Amidei
Nun Shack
The intersection of my life with the 100-year history of St. Anthony came 23 years ago on a beautiful sunny summer day. My friend, Carolyn Caruso, the school principal, told me about a position opening as Religious Education Director. Curious, I made an appointment with the pastor, Fr. Tom Venne.
I was immediately interested in the position for two reasons. Fr. Tom had an authentic spirit of goodness and kindness that I was dawn to and having ministered in other large parishes, I though this looked like such a sweet, sleepy parish. Not that much going on here! A significant miscalculation:)
I was invited to join the parish staff, four of us, housed in the Parish Office, the repurposed Convent. My office was one of the three former nun bedrooms. It held an old desk and a "bookshelf," a vestige from the convent dining room, that previously stored china. When my children came to visit my new office they said, "Mom, you work in a nun shack!" an image they found humorous.
Our "meeting room" was the convent kitchen. The basement was, well, a basement. With a coat of paint, organized as my son, Jon's Eagle Project, it became the one space for Bible Study, Youth Group, and even served as the prison for the Apostle Paul and Daniel's Lion's Den for Bible Camp.
What I remember vividly is when I came to sign my contract, stepping out of my car, these words came to my heart, "This is benevolent ground." I have never exactly been able to explain those words in my heart. But I would say, this revealed itself as a truth in my life. This parish has been a source of benevolence. To come from a good home is a great gift in life. St. Anthony on the Lake has been a source of benevolence, and a good home for me and my family. I hope it has been that for you.
A little of our history, did you know...

Dr. Kathie   Amidei started Family Program here in 1995 with 25 families.

Our first year doing Bible Camp was 1996 "Zacchaeus in the Tree"
(Do you see the Convent in the background?)

We took the first group of youth to NCYC in 1995.

Our first mission trip was in 1997, to South Dakota.

The Faith Formation Staff is looking forward to celebrating our history with you at our 100yr Celebration June 30th!
Have you  heard about our Parish Covenant?
St. Anthony on the Lake and Its Covenant The covenant we are now forming is not a brand-new covenant, though it may be stated in contemporary language. It is a renewed one, based on commitments made more than 100 years ago. This covenant is one where we pray to be re-energized to begin our second hundred years, connected to our larger Church, our world and our universe and to be a grateful and transforming influence in all. Read more...

Have you missed part or all of the homily series by Father Tony? Listen now to hear more about the covenant that we will be signing.

Summer 2018 Mission Trips
And they're off!  Mission Trip Season officially kicks off this Sunday!

For our first trip, a group of Freshmen head to Milwaukee to serve with YouthWorks for one week.  Please keep these youth, and their leader, Rebekah Melcher, in your prayers for the week.

Our next two trips leave on the same day, June 16, for different parts of the country to serve with 2 different organizations.  The Sophomores and Seniors will serve with Youthworks in Pine Ridge, South Dakota, continuing a partnership our parish has had for 24 years!  The Juniors will serve in Knott County, Kentucky, with Appalachian Service Project - a brand new partnership where we expect to be doing more construction-type work.  Please keep these youth and all their leaders in your prayers from June 16 to June 24.

Our fourth trip will take place from July 15 to 20, when another group of Freshmen head to Milwaukee, this time to serve on an Archdiocesan Mission Trip.  We'll be reminding you to pray for them in another newsletter.

Please consider purchasing a Share in these trips this weekend after Mass.  You will receive a postcard from one of the youth and an invitation to our Shareholder's Brunch on July 22 after the 10:45 Mass
Summer Outreach Camp

Coming this July, over 40 youth who have just finished grade 7 & 8 will come to St. Anthony on the Lake for three days. The youth will spend days out in the community, doing a variety of tasks, such as yardwork and light home repair, for senior citizens or agencies that work with those in need in Waukesha County. They will spend the evenings here in a retreat-like experience. They even stay overnight! Here are three ways, in addition to prayer, that you can connect with this experience:
1) Register your youth who has just finished grade 7 or grade 8! We still have room for a few more!
2) Offer to help! We need adults to lead the crews, folks (teens or adults) with musical talents to help lead our praise and worship, and adults to help in the kitchen or with driving to and from the worksites.
A first experience of a Mission Trip for 7th and 8th grade youth serving out in our community.
3) Suggest a senior citizen whose yard we can work on. Do you know of someone who could use a little help? Let Ann Fons know!

Evening July 24 through the evening of July 26.
Contact  Ann Fons  if you are interested in helping.

Ballpark Day of Faith June 24

We have a group from St. Anthony joining in this day of great fun and faith at the ballpark, and hope you can join us! Contact Sheri Schmit if you have any questions.
Alpha for Young Aduls (21-35)

"I invite you to check out Alpha for Young Adults (ages 21 to 35). You can come for one evening with no commitment -- it's free and dinner is included. It starts on Tuesday, June 19 at 6:15 pm on the back patio of Saint Anthony on the Lake (W280N2101 Prospect Ave in Pewaukee). For a food count, they're asking that you sign up ... or you can just show up. Consider going with a friend.

What's Alpha? Alpha is run all over the world. It explores the big questions of life and faith in a non-judgmental way. Each evening lasts about 1 1/2 hours and includes food, a video, and conversation. Everyone is welcome in its informal, respectful, and friendly space - people of all faiths and people of no faith. Watch a trailer for the Alpha Film Series.
Baptism Garments

We have been very blessed to have parishioner Joyce Pavlons make the beautiful baptism garments for the children of St. Anthony on the Lake Parish.  Joyce began this ministry in 1994 and has made well over 1,600 garments! She is ready to retire from making the baptism garments and we are looking for someone (or a few people) who would be willing to continue in this ministry.  Materials will be provided. Please contact Kathy Paro ; 262-691-9170 ext. 1137 if you are interested and would like more information.
We want to thank Joyce for her many years of serving in this ministry.  Our parish truly has been blessed!

Athletics

Attention 4th Grade Parents!   St. Anthony on the Lake Parish has an excellent athletic program for grades 5 through 8. The program is open to all youth who are enrolled in either our Family Program or our School. It is time to encourage your child to take part!
We offer Volleyball and Cross Country in the Fall, Basketball in the Winter, and Track in the Spring. Those children and youth who participate in 3 sports each year earn a Mustang Award, and those who do so for all four years receive the Star Mustang award. Register now in order to receive those awards!

Your child will need a physical to participate in  athletics next year. Registrations and all forms  can be found online here.

Thank you to all who have already registered! That is so helpful for us as we are planning for next year!  Welcome to those of you that are new and receiving this newsletter for the first time!

Still planning to register? Save some money by registering before June 15 to receive 2017-18 prices.
Spread the word and sign up, it's for all families with children 3K-grade 11. More information on Family Program can be found here.
