A workshop will be held on Thursday June 14, 2018 at the Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS) in Gloucester Point, VA. The workshop focus will be on shoreline best practice case studies using real world examples of various nature-based features and practices. This workshop will build from last year’s event about new incentive programs to support more living shoreline installations. This year, the focus shifts to actual projects throughout coastal Virginia. The selected case studies will represent various practices, including upland stormwater management, riparian buffer restoration, tidal marsh planting, marsh sills, and oyster reef features used in living shoreline designs.
CCRM scientists and invited speakers will share their experiences, observations, and lessons learned from projects they are involved with, including representatives from the Elizabeth River Project, Old Dominion University, and DCR’s Shoreline Erosion Advisory Service (SEAS). Afternoon breakout sessions will include an outdoor field experience to VIMS case study projects, plus indoor hands-on training opportunities. Results from the 2018 General Assembly and other related program updates will also be in the workshop program.
