Episcopal Church-wide Convention Wraps Up Tomorrow in Austin: "Meditate on the Life and Teachings of Jesus"

Dear friends in the Winnetka corner of the Chicago ring of the American slice of the  Episcopal branch of God's church,

The 79th General Convention of the Episcopal Church started last week in Austin, Texas, and wraps up its work tomorrow.  General Convention (a.k.a., the family reunion of the Episcopal branch of the Jesus Movement!) meets every three years to worship together, debate ideas, establish priorities, and pass legislation. Each of the Episcopal Church's 109 dioceses--from 16 nations--is represented by a delegation to convention. The agenda is vast--covering questions ranging from Middle East peace to Prayer Book revision, from care of creation to church budgeting. You can read more about the issues before the convention here: https://www.episcopalchurch.org/library/article/heres-summary-guide-major-issues-facing-79th-meeting-general-convention-austin. For legislative updates and live streams of business and worship, visit https://www.episcopalchurch.org/general-convention-2018-media-hub. Finally, I commend to you Presiding Bishop Michael Curry's excellent sermon from Convention's opening Eucharist, in which he reminds us, in all things and before all things, to "meditate on the life and teachings of Jesus": https://www.episcopalnewsservice.org/2018/07/06/79th-general-convention-july-5-sermon-by-presiding-bishop-michael-curry/.

Treats for the Park
An important part of our children's program at the Maple Park services is having a delicious snack after the service. The children really look forward to gathering around the snack table afterwards for lemonade and a yummy treat. While Dunkin' Munchkins are a big favorite, we would love to offer homemade treats whenever possible. Would some of our talented Christ Church bakers be willing to bring something one Sunday morning this summer? If so, we love you and thank you. Please contact Melissa to sign up, [email protected].

Playgroup on the Patio - Wednesdays

Parents and caregivers, you and your little ones are invited to a weekly Christ Church playdate! We will have lots of toys, a simple snack, and coffee for the grown-ups!  Friends are welcome. Questions? Contact Melissa Durbin, or Patty Lea.
