The Visual Fine Arts Graduate Show #1 is on display in The Gallery at Three Rivers from Thursday, March 22 - Monday, April 2, 2018.
This exhibition features the
work of the following students who will be graduating in May 2018 with an associate degree in Visual Fine Arts.:

March certainly roared in like a lion. We had a snowy month of upheaval, but fortunately we can now look ahead to warmer temperatures and spring flowers.

CSCU and CPTV Partner on Documentary
The documentary, College Bound: A
Look into Connecticut State Colleges & Universities, features all 17 institutions and follows students, counselors, professors, and alumni who discuss their experiences and share their insights. The documentary answers questions like, "
Does paying tens of thousands for tuition each year mean students will get a better education?" and "What's the difference between public and private colleges?"
The program premiered on February 22 and will air again on Sunday, April 22, 2018 at 9:30 a.m., and on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at 9 a.m. on CPTV, or you can watch it here.

Master Plan Update in Action
Through a collaborative effort between college stakeholders, the system-office representation and the consultant team, the Master Plan Update will integrate the college mission and Three Rivers Strategic Plan, as well as recognize system-wide goals into a comprehensive vision for the use of our facilities. It will promote the advancement of higher education at Three Rivers through state-of-the-art planning projections over the next 10-years.
Concepts will reinforce current strategies and institute new long-term strategies that guide college decision-making for capital investment.

Workforce Graduates the Seventh Welding Class!
Congratulations to the students of the seventh welding class and to Manufacturing Pipeline Coordinator Bret Jacobson and his team at Grasso Tech. To date they have trained over 200 students through the Eastern CT Manufacturing Pipeline!

CSCU Submits
Substantive
Change Request for Consolidation Plan
On March 16, t
he Board of Regents submitted a Substantive Change request seeking approval from CIHE-NEASC to consolidate the 12 accredited Connecticut community colleges into one accredited College with 12 campuses. The document includes details on the consolidated organizational structure and integrated administrative functions and outlines the vision for an academically integrated institution. Adventures in Lifelong Learning Hosts Welcome Reception
On March 23, the Adventures in Lifelong Learning held a Welcome Reception for those joining the program this semester. At the reception, the lifelong learners discussed upcoming field trips, the calendar of events, met the lecturers and discussed other highlights of the upcoming semester.

 Veterans Resource Fair Attracts Large Crowd
Three Rivers hosted the fifth annual Veterans Resource Fair
, a one-stop resource for jobs, education, health services, networking and more. This year the fair was expanded to include 13 yellow-ribbon colleges and additional employers. The event benefited our veteran students as well as veterans from the community, and many came to take advantage of the pool of resources that Sharon Lincoln pulled together.

Three Rivers Representatives Testify on Raised Bill 369
On March 28, Acting Dean of Student Services

Associate Dean of Workforce Development
Marge Valentin and Manufacturing Pipeline Coordinator Bret Jacobson went to the public hearing at the Senate Appropriations Committee in support of Connecticut's Senate Bill 369, Senator Cathy Osten's Advanced Manufacturing and Submarine jobs bill. The purpose of the bill is to review job development and training programs in the state and the funding for such programs. While there they saw Bill Stanley, President of the Three Rivers College Foundation Board, who was present for another state initiative.

HEAT: Fighting the Opioid Epidemic
Community members, students, faculty and staff turned out to  hear Assistant United States Attorney Robert Spector speak about the rising opioid epidemic on March 28. He was accompanied by a DEA agent who discussed the factors that made the epidemic grow so rapidly in Connecticut in particular. The discussion then turned very personal when a father, whose son battled addiction and lost his life, told his family's story.
The audience also watched a clip from a film produced by the FBI and the DEA to fight the epidemic, "Chasing the Dragon: The Life of an Opiate Addict.
" You can watch it here. The event was funded through a Connecticut Healthy Campus Initiative grant that was awarded to Three Rivers and Norwich Human Services to educate the community, students, faculty and staff on the growing opioid crisis in Southeastern Connecticut.

News from Three Rivers College Foundation
|
The 26th Annual Scholarship and Awards Ceremony will be held Wednesday, May 2 at 5:30 pm in the MPR. New this year, the Foundation will host a Scholarship Reception immediately following the ceremony.
This occasion is a time for donors, scholarship recipients, faculty, staff, family and friends to come together to recognize the achievements of the students and to thank donors for their philanthropy.

Chris Donahue, is running for the Democratic party's nomination
the 43rd District state representative seat, which is being vacated by nine-term Democrat Diana Urban of North Stonington.
