Greetings! Summer has officially arrived and brought with it extended daylight. Your District 1 Office will take advantage of these longer days by addressing health and human services, agriculture in Yolo County, and law and justice services. Now that schools are recessed for the summer, the Arthur F. Turner Community Library and Clarksburg Branch Library are ready to take students on a reading adventure. Measure K Cannabis Tax Passes - Thank You Yolo County Voters!
On June 5, 2018, the voters of Yolo County overwhelmingly supported our Measure K Marijuana Tax. This now enables us to move forward to impose a general tax on the gross receipts of commercial cannabis activities in the unincorporated area of Yolo County. The tax will be used for criminal enforcement of illegal cultivation, early childhood intervention and prevention, youth development, substance abuse education and treatment for children and adults, rural infrastructure and programs and cannabis research. The tax can also be spent for unrestricted general revenue purposes per the Board of Supervisors' discretion.
Speaker at the California State Association of Counties Legislative Conference on May 17, 2018
As Vice Chair of the California State Association of Counties' (CSAC) Housing, Land Use and Transportation Policy Committee (HLT), we had a meeting on May 17, 2018, during the CSAC Legislative Conference in Sacramento. A presentation by Senator Scott Wiener of California's Senate District 11, who has emerged as a leading voice striving to address California's housing affordability crisis, was first on the agenda. As housing continues to be a hot topic in the legislature in 2018, CSAC listed a summary of 25 housing bills in which they have an active or pending position. The Transportation Funding Update indicated that SB 1 is expected to generate over $5 billion for transportation infrastructure projects annually, with $1.5 billion earmarked for counties and cities for improvements on our local street and road system.

Yolo County Day Reporting Center Helps Keep 7 out of Jail
The mission of the Yolo County Day Reporting Center is to provide individualized, supportive and comprehensive re-entry programs that will stabilize clients, reduce recidivism and promote positive re-entry experiences. They are very successful in their mission as the May 2018 highlights from the center include 60 enrollments, 7 successful completions (graduations), and 9 positive transitions.

Governor Brown's 2018-19 Budget is a Boon for West Sacramento
Governor Jerry Brown signed the 2018-19 state budget and West Sacramento especially benefitted. Included is $100 million for construction of the California Indian Heritage Center, $170 million for flood protection and levee improvements, and funding to help get individuals and families out of homelessness.
Free River Cats Tickets for District 1 Non-Profits
Each year Yolo County Board members receive vouchers from the Sacramento River Cats Baseball Club for distribution to residents who participate in Yolo County community service groups. Once again, my office had the privilege of presenting game tickets to three local groups. This year's recipients included Clarksburg Branch Library, West Sacramento Senior Center, and Northern California Construction Training. I would like to thank each and every member of these groups for their time and effort. To view photos of the presentation please click on the Photo Gallery below.
