  • November is family violence awareness month www.bit.ly/TriDVMonth - learn how to help and sign the community pledge
  • Rural property crime is on the rise. Crimewatch groups are working to raise awareness; residents encouraged to secure their property, install cameras etc.
  • Announcement to close McCullough Centre in Gunn with a move to privatize centres
  • Victim Services is seeing an increase in parents needing supports for youth addiction issues along with increase in family violence calls and personal violence calls;a lack of coping skills resulting in violence more often and resorting to drug use to cope

Emerging Initiatives:
  • Stony Plain Youth Justice Committee is seeking volunteers
  • Alberta Treatment Centres are now fully paid for by GOA and no longer required to access funds through Income Support; connect with Access 24/7 for info on treatment centre
  • Some communities are having success with crime prevention with using Lightcatch App
  • Nex Gen Men is a group that is promoting positive, healthy relationships
