New Addition to the HRA Family

H RA welcomes Karla Callaway to the 
team. Karla will be heading up the Recruitment Division to work with employers in recruitment  and placement of exceptional candidates. 

In addition, she will be work ing  with can didates to assist them  with their  career opportunities and securing  employment. 

Karla brings 17 years of HR experience to HRA and will begin on July 16th .  Karla has extensive experience with employee relations, on-boarding, compensation and benefits and of course recruitment.

Justice Kennedy Announces His Retirement
Justice Anthony M. Kennedy, a Reagan appointee, is retiring from the Supreme Court after 43 years of service in the federal judiciary.  President Trump will likely be able to have his next Supreme Court nominee, federal appellate justice Brett Kavanaugh, confirmed, as Democrats are lacking the numbers required to ultimately block the nomination. 
Nevertheless, a partisan battle in the coming months is almost certain to ensue, as President Trump has vowed to select socially conservative judges.  Kavanaugh, no stranger to political infighting, had his federal appellate nomination held up by Senate Democrats for three years before ultimately taking the bench.
During his tenure, Kennedy was often a disappointment to conservatives and a wild card for liberals, as he tended to be a swing vote on many social issues.  While Kennedy demonstrated pro-business leanings, notably his concern that the Affordable Care Act is unconstitutional, he tended to side with liberal justices regarding social issues such as abortion rights and same sex marriage.

Failing to Make a Premium Payment on FMLA

Can an employer cancel an employee's health benefits while on FMLA for failing to make a premium payment? Legally, "yes" if the employee has failed to make a payment, has been properly notified, and has been given a 30-day grace period. However, before cancelling and notifying the insurance carrier, the employer may want to continue the plan and recover the premiums from the employee upon return from FMLA due to administrative burden and employee morale. If the employee does not return, the employer may have recourse to recover  premiums from the employee.

This professional will be responsible for the oversight of the HR department and staff.  Prefer a minimum of 5-8 years of having worked in an HR leadership role, HR department oversight and staff management. This professional will be responsible for performing the Recruitment of organizational staff of all levels from entry-level to management. Such duties include circulating position opportunities internally, and externally through social media, job fairs, colleges, career centers, and other means in addition to performing pre-screening with incoming applications, setting up interviews, and assisting with job offers and on-boarding.
