J oin your CFO and CIO peers for an exclusive event where you will learn about RPA - an exciting technology that is automating manual processes across industries and functional departments.  RPA adoption is growing at over 40% year over year with a projected annual spend of $2.9b by 2021 (according to recent published reports from Gartner & Forrester respectively).  A recent Deloitte survey indicates that over 53% of companies surveyed report starting their RPA journey with adoption expected to reach 72% by 2020.

Hosted by the FEI Chicago Chapter and SIM Chicago, this unique event will include an overview of RPA by Ashling Partners followed by a case study by Rich Tarapchak, Corporate Controller of Reynold's Group Holdings.  Learn what RPA is / is not, how to leverage it within your organization, how it fits into your Intelligent Automation strategy, its benefits, potential use cases and pitfalls while gaining practical insight into how to get started and scale up from a leading integrator and a distinguished business practitioner.

Join us for this exclusive event to network with your peers and learn about this transformative technology.  If you are a CIO, we encourage you to bring your CFO/Finance Executives as guests and likewise if you are a CFO, bring your CIO/IT Executives.

prez PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Maggie Martensen

In the words of Sue Siegel, GE Chief Innovation Officer, "The pace of change will never be as slow as it is today."

Eric Hansen, keynote speaker at our March dinner meeting vividly helped to bring home this truth: Change and transformation are very much a reality for the finance and accounting profession. Perhaps we have not felt the impact of change to the extent that say travel agents or taxi drivers have. Nonetheless the profession and our roles as financial executives are being transformed at breathtaking speeds.

It is telling that in the of the Top Ten Skills needed in 2020, as identified by the World Economic Forum, are included Creativity, Critical Thinking, and Complex Problem Solving. As James Booth, CFO at The Instant Group concludes, "Today, the role of the CFO has evolved from financial expert to a multidiscipline strategist. In addition to traditional accounting and finance responsibilities, by 2020 research shows that the top priority for CFOs will be keeping pace with technology and harnessing big data."

FEI Chicago is your partner in this transformation process. Together we are exploring AI, RPA, Change Management and Cybersecurity among other topics. Because the speed of change will not slow down, we continue to develop programming to equip you in this environment. This brings us to our Annual Professional Development Day at the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. Join us on May 6th, when two very distinguished speakers Professor Rob Wolcott and Professor Harry Kraemer will speak to us about Foresight, Vision, Innovation and Change Management. And as if that weren't enough the program will be held at the Global Hub which has been dubbed Kellogg's architectural marvel on the lake for its spatially complex design emphasizing collaboration, boldness and flexibility.

See you at Kellogg!

A Message from Frank Cesario, FEI Chicago Chapter Immediate Past President

We are less than two months away from FEI 2019 Financial Leadership Summit (May 19-21 in Orlando). This is the only event where FEI members across the nation gather to meet, to learn, and to be inspired.  For those who haven't been to Summit, it is a nonstop two days that will send you home with as many new ideas as you're willing to entertain.

Sunday night will start by honoring our Financial Executives of the Year and then welcome attendees with a trip to Epcot for a jaw-dropping show as only Disney can present. Over the course of Monday and Tuesday we will be challenged to "own our hustle" and turn "me into we" by highly sought-after speakers with backgrounds that run the gamut. We close with a graffiti artist's view on the Art of Leadership. Oh, and there are six rounds of breakout sessions throughout to dive into the topic of your choice, and an exhibit hall offering a look at some of the latest tools that may be of interest to your business.

Summit is a first-class experience that, like the rest of FEI, is created by members, for members.  This a rare opportunity to meet FEI members nationwide and build those personal relationships that have a way of circling back into our professional lives. It's two business days with flight and hotel, but I challenge you not to get back a multiple of your investment.  Many of us see something interesting, fail to act right away and then get distracted. See the link below to avoid that problem.

Hope to see you at Summit!
Frank Cesario
Immediate Past President FEI Chicago Chapter and
Co-Chair of Summit Planning Committee

Vince DiRaddo

From our CMG Chair Vince DiRaddo

At the March 7th Career Management Group (CMG) breakfast, Marilynn Graves (MJG Insights) presented an insightful and thought-provoking session on "Leading with Emotional Intelligence." The World Economic Forum projects that in 2020 Emotional Intelligence (EI) will be in the top ten in-demand skills. Marilynn stated that EI can be a significant differentiator for those in transition, in a full-time career role, as a consultant, and finally in a Board of Directors position. Of the six elements of Emotional Intelligence, Self-Management is very important. Additional topics covered included EI myths, social events threats and rewards, and an exercise to identify how working for the best and the worst supervisor impacts discretionary effort at work. In summary, Emotional Intelligence can have a significant effect on success or failure in both the work environment and in social circles.
