RUTGERS DAY

We are rolling out the scarlet carpet when Rutgers Day returns April 27 from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Admission and parking are free.

With more than 600 programs across four campuses to choose from, there's something for everyone! Come and learn about all the great things going on at your state university.
Here's a sampling of what you can expect on each campus:

  • Busch - Programs featuring the Life Sciences, Rutgers Business School, and newly expanded Engineering Science Fair
  • College Avenue - Rutgers Day and All Alumni Parade, global village, and programs honoring alumnus Paul Robeson
  • Cook - Ag Field Day programs focusing on the environment and agriculture, including animal shows, as well as programs from Douglass Residential College and Eagleton Institute of Politics
  • Douglass - 45th Annual New Jersey Folk Festival
PERFORMANCES
The Hub CIty Music Festival takes New Brunswick by storm throughout April with 23 days of performances in venues all over town showcasing renowned performing artists and supporting the local music scene. Donations at shows benefit Elijah's Promise.

Enjoy free live performances midday on Tuesdays throughout the spring at First Reformed Church of New Brunswick's Downtown Lunchtime Recital Series.

Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Company, one of the most innovative and powerful forces in the dance-theater world, makes their State Theatre debut April 11.

Join in the fun at the International Folk Dance Gathering April 13 at the Hungarian American Athletic Club. Dances from nearly a dozen countries will be performed in traditional costumes and taught to attendees.

Come on down! The Price is Right Live! visits the State Theatre New Jersey on April 16. Play classic games on television's longest running game show.

The George Street Playhouse presents The Immigrant, a moving drama about the real experiences of a Russian-Jewish emigrant to the United States, through April 12.
EXHIBITIONS, FILMS, LECTURES
Rutgers Global presents "The Transformation in India-US Relations," a conversation with the consul general of India, on April 3 at the College Avenue Student Center.

On April 5, view the recently restored 1995 documentary "The Gate of Heavenly Peace," in conjunction with the Zimmerli Art Museum exhibition "Tiananmen Square, 1989: Photographs by Khiang H. Hei."

The British are coming! Watch East Jersey Old Town Village come alive with the 22nd Regiment of Foot & the 4th Battalion on patrol, April 6-7. Enjoy demonstrations of blacksmithing and stone carving and horse-drawn wagon rides. Free.

Attend an artist reception April 6 at the Zimmerli Art Museum for Irina Nakhova: Museum on the Edge to celebrate Nakhova's first museum retrospective in the United States. The evening includes a conversation between the artist and one of the curators.

Writers at Rutgers Reading Series presents novelist and essayist Alexander Chee, author of Edinburgh and The Queen of the Night, April 10 at the College Avenue Student Center.

View a dynamic new exhibit Mid-Century New Jersey: The Garden State in the 1950's at the Cornelius Low House Museum in Piscataway through June 28. Free.

Eagleton Institute for Politics welcomes four of the most prominent African American political analysts and operatives in the country--Donna Brazile, Yolanda Caraway, Leah Daughtry, and Minyon Moore--for a conversation about their book, For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Politics, April 29 at Douglass Student Center.
FOR KIDS
On April 7, join Art Together, a drop-in program inviting families to get creative on art projects inspired by work in the Zimmerli Art Museum.

Little Sprouts Garden Adventures nature programs return this month for children 3-5 at the Rutgers Gardens. Choose from Into the Woods April 10; Mysterious Bamboo April 17; Meet your Veggie Buddy April 24, and more!

The spring session of Music Together, a music and movement class for infants and toddlers, runs through June 1 at Mason Gross School of the Arts.

Try out a new care experience and routine for your children, up to 12 years old at KinderCare Learning Center at Rutgers.

Scarlet KIDS Summer Camp Program, a co-ed recreational program, is accepting registrations for children entering grades first through sixth.

Have a teenager interested in studying public health? Register for PHocus: A Summer Experience for High School Students, a one week, interdisciplinary educational program in July or August. Sponsored by the Rutgers School of Public Health.
SCIENCE & NATURE
Spring is here and it's time to get your garden on! This month at Rutgers Gardens choose from these workshops: The Bulbs of Summer, April 13; Container Vegetable & Fruit Gardening, April 13; and Small Trees and Large Shrubs for the Garden, April 6.

Observe the night sky through a 20-inch optical telescope at the Robert A. Schommer Astronomical Observatory on Rutgers' Busch Campus on select Thursdays of every month, weather permitting. This month's dates are April 11, 18 and 25.
SPORTS & RECREATION
Rutgers Football Coaches Clinic takes place April 5-6 and features New York Giants Head Coach Pat Shurmur.

The Liberty Base Ball Club, a vintage team, opens their 2019 season with a double-header April 6 at East Jersey Old Town Village in Piscataway. The season continues through September.

Rutgers Football Scarlet & White Game takes place April 13 at HighPoint.com Stadium and includes a pre-game autograph session, a tailgate for N.J. high school coaches, and a Middle School Combine and skills showcase.

Open Streets are back! New Brunswick Ciclovia returns April 14 with miles of streets closed to traffic and open for recreation. Participate in healthy activities along the route, including rock climbing and dance and fitness classes. Free.

Registration is open for the NJ Half Marathon & 8K at Rutgers University, April 14, one of the largest half marathons in the state.

Free Yoga at The Yard is back on the College Avenue Campus, Sunday mornings through October.
AROUND TOWN
Visit and donate to the Rutgers University Dance Marathon, the largest student run philanthropic event in New Jersey, raising money and awareness for Embrace Kids Foundation. April 5-6 at The RAC.

The Metlar-Bodine House Museum welcomes guest auctioneer Leigh Keno and music by Kinderhook at an evening benefiting the museum April 6.

T he Homeless and Indigent Population Health Outreach Project (HIPHOP) hosts a 5K Fun Run/Walk April 6 , supporting the Promise Clinic, Community Health Initiative, and the Local Interdisciplinary Care Collaborative. Register here.

Friends of the New Brunswick Library hosts their annual book sale April 12 and 13 and includes books, DVDs, CDs, puzzles, and more!

The celebration of Paul Robeson's 100th anniversary of his graduation from Rutgers continues with the dedication of Paul Robeson Plaza April 12 on the Voorhees Mall.

Job hunting? Attend the NJ Statewide Career & Internship Fair April 26 at the Rutgers Athletic Center, Livingston Campus. 170 employers will be available to discuss full-time, part-time, and internship opportunities from a wide variety of fields. Open to Rutgers University students and alumni, as well as the general public.

Rutgers Living History Society presents Donald A. Ritchie, Historian Emeritus of the U.S. Senate, with the first Rutgers Oral History Archives Legacy Award April 26 at their annual meeting and brunch at the College Avenue Student Center.

The New Brunswick Free Public Library provides programming for adult emerging bilinguals interested in improving their English language skills. Volunteers are needed for the eight to ten week program and training is available.
