HELP VALUE IMMIGRANT FAMILIES NOW
BY RESISTING MORE DETENTION & DEPORTATION FUNDING

Right now, Congress is considering federal funding proposals that would expand a deportation force to tear families and communities apart, detain an unprecedented 52,000 people daily, and further militarize border communities. This funding would balloon an already bloated immigration detention and deportation force - at the expense of investments in education, healthcare, and refugee resettlement, which would serve only to dismantle community wholeness. Congress has the "power of the purse" and must reject this proposal and cut funding to the machinery behind unjust deportation, detention, and further militarization of our border communities.

On Tuesday, May 8th, Secretary of Homeland Security, Kirstjen Nielsen, will appear before federal lawmakers to share her priorities for next fiscal year (FY 2019). Every dollar that is spent on detention, deportation, and border militarization will go toward dismantling family unity. It is critical that Senators hear loudly and clearly that their constituents want them to press Secretary Nielsen about what she will do to protect our community members from additional deportations, family separation, and dangerous detention and increase oversight and accountability in the agency.

Call Senate Appropriations Homeland Security Members Today (May 7th)!
*Please call the Senators from your state. If your state is not listed, call the Chair and Ranking Member.

Sample Script: "I'm your constituent from [CITY/TOWN], and [as a person of faith] I urge you to ask Secretary Nielsen about what she will do to protect our community members from additional deportations, family separation, and dangerous detention and increase oversight and accountability in the Department of Homeland Security during the May 8th Senate appropriations hearing. I also urge you to reduce detention, deportation, and border militarization funding in fiscal year 2019. Please stand with dreamers in the United States and support the Dream Act, or another bipartisan, legislative solution that protects as many dreamers as possible without compromising family unity."
