Ice Cream Social
Sunday, July 1st; 12-3pm
Join us for our most popular event of the year! The annual Ice Cream Social will be held on the co-op porch and feature local ice cream from Red Bicycle and Kilgus Farmstead, with vegan options available. Enjoy a hot summer day with cool treats, live music, and help us raise 10,000 meals for Eastern Illinois Foodbank!

Team Tomatillos is a monthly kids cooking class for first & second graders. In this hour long class, we learn how to read recipes, use kitchen utensils safely, and make delicious snacks! There are two sessions for Team Tomatillos; please only register your child for one.

Professional Knife Sharpening
Market Saturdays, starting May 5th; 9-11am
$4-$7 per knife
Local knife sharpener Laurence Mate will be in the Flatlander Classroom on market Saturdays to offer his expert knife sharpening services. Bring your dull and worn kitchen knives to the co-op and they'll leave like new!

We have two opportunities to attend our Ethiopian Cuisine class. First class will feature an authentic dish with meat, paired with traditional Ethiopian bread, injera. Born in Ethiopia and a scholar of anthropology, Tesfaye will also discuss the cultural, topographical, and historical elements that have shaped and influenced contemporary Ethiopian cuisine.

Kids Cooking: Team Artichokes I

Team Artichokes is a monthly kids cooking class for third, fourth, and fifth graders. In this hour long class, we learn how to read recipes, use kitchen utensils safely, and make delicious snacks. There are two sessions for Team Artichokes; please only register your child for one.

$10 owners / $15 non-owners
Join the chefs from The Red Herring for a summer series of vegan cooking classes! Learn about cooking vegan, affordable cuisine from around the world. This class will explore using local, seasonal ingredients to menu plan nutritious and blissfully delicious meals.

Saturday, July 14th; 2-4:30pm

Our second class with Tesfaye features his recipe for authentic injera, the traditional Ethiopian bread served with meals. Join the class to learn not only how to make injera, but also its significance in Ethiopian cuisine.

For our third paleo class, Rucha is sharing two desserts recipes: a delectable creme brulee and a classic, kid-approved chocolate chip cookie. Who said you can't  treat yourself with the paleo lifestyle!?

Saturday, July 21st; 2-4pm

Curious about the raw vegan diet? Summertime is the perfect season to explore recipes to stay cool, get nourished, detox a bit and absorb as many vitamins and nutrients as possible! Certified Raw Vegan chef, Evelyne, will demonstrate two ways to make raw vegan sushi dishes, along with accompanying sauces, using local ingredients. One recipe will be gluten free and seaweed free. Come ready to roll and ready to eat!

Tofu, Tempeh, & TVP--Oh My!

$7 owners / $12 non-owners
Tofu, tempeh, and TVP--what are they and how do you use them? Join us to learn more about these plant-based protein powerhouses and enjoy a dish made with each! We'll feature recipes for TVP spring rolls, tempeh pineapple fried rice, and tofu chocolate peanut butter pie.

Fermentation 101
Saturday, July 28th; 2-4pm
$7 owners / $12 non-owners
What do miso, yogurt, sourdough, vinegar, beer, and salami all have in common? They're all fermented! Come learn the fundamentals of fermentation with new instructor, Micahl. He'll be covering how to safely ferment food, how bacteria and fungus transform ingredients into the foods we know and love, and how to use up all that extra produce from the garden or summer CSA!
