Your help needed (Fellowship)
|
|
Our Fellowship Leaders—Martha and Chuck Lumia and Mizzi Diamond and Tim Doyle—need your help.
FIRST
Beginning this Sunday we will use flatware that is not plastic. If you have extra forks taking up space in kitchen drawers, bring them to St. Hugh's and leave them with us to use in our Sunday Morning Fellowship.
|
|
SECOND
To everyone who has contributed food and goodies to our Fellowship Time, thank you. You have blessed us.
For those of you considering bringing food and goodies to share: PLEASE use our sign up sheet (on the bulletin board in the Fellowship Hall). It helps with planning. Help out our Fellowship Team by letting them know about your plans. Again, thanks to all for making our time together after worship a joyful and satisfying experience. ~Fr. Dan

Sunday Readings and Music
|

The Readings for this Sunday
In this reading from the story of the early church Paul and his companions are called by a vision to journey to Macedonia and the city of Philippi, where a merchant named Lydia responds to the gospel and is baptized, together with her household. She offers her home to the travelers, and becomes an important supporter of their missionary endeavor.
A prayer for God’s graciousness and saving power, and a bidding of praise by all people for God’s justice and bounty
In this reading John the Seer presents a vision of the new Jerusalem, the paradise of God. The city has no need of a temple or of a sun or moon, for it is enlightened by the very glory of God and the lamp of the Lamb, who is Jesus. It will be a place of purity and abundance for the saints. As in the Garden of Eden, here will be found the river and the tree of life.
Our gospel tells of Jesus’ promise to his disciples of the coming of the Holy Spirit. Although Jesus will no longer be present physically, those who continue in his love will know his abiding presence, together with that of the Father. The Holy Spirit will be their counselor and bring Jesus’ own words to mind. Jesus shares these things with his followers before they take place, and he gives them his peace

Ready to confirm your faith?
|
|
On Pentecost Day—Sunday, June 9, 2019—Bishop Katharine (our Assisting Bishop) will make her annual visit to St. Hugh's. She will be the celebrant and preacher and will offer the laying on of hands and prayer in the Sacramental Rite of Confirmation. If you would like to be Confirmed, please contact Fr. Dan or Rev. Patricia.
More about Confirmation, Reception, and Reaffirmation
From our Outline of the Faith:
Q. What is Confirmation?
A. Confirmation is the rite in which we express a mature commitment to Christ, and receive strength from the Holy Spirit through prayer and the laying on of hands by a bishop.
Q. What is required of those to be confirmed?
A. It is required of those to be confirmed that they have been baptized, are sufficiently instructed in the Christian Faith, are penitent for their sins, and are ready to affirm their confession of Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. ~BCP 860
From our Prayer Book introduction to the Service of Confirmation:
In the course of their Christian development, those baptized at an early age are expected, when they are ready and have been duly prepared, to make a mature public affirmation of their faith and commitment to the responsibilities of their Baptism and to receive the laying on of hands by the bishop.
Those baptized as adults, unless baptized with laying on of hands by a bishop, are also expected to make a public affirmation of their faith and commitment to the responsibilities of their Baptism in the presence of a bishop and to receive the laying on of hands. ~BCP 412

Praying for All,
Praying for You

Collect for Sunday
O God, you have prepared for those who love you such good things as surpass our understanding: Pour into our hearts such love towards you, that we, loving you in all things and above all things, may obtain your promises, which exceed all that we can desire; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.
Amen.
~BCP 225
A Prayer for Heroic Service
O Judge of the nations, we remember before you with grateful hearts the men and women of our country who in the day of decision ventured much for the liberties we now enjoy. Grant that we may not rest until all the people of this land share the benefits of true freedom and gladly accept its disciplines. This we ask in the Name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. ~BCP 839

Your gift to St. Hugh's makes a difference. It allows us to be open so that "
all who seek you [God] here may find you, and be filled with your joy and peace."
It is always the right time. Donate to the mission and ministry of St. Hugh's. Your gifts--of time, talent, and treasure--make it possible to be present in Idyllwild so that we can both invite and then "enable questioning, open-minded people to discover for themselves, the significance of Jesus Christ."
