African-American Equity Task Force Event

Nov 12 @ 5pm
Parents, students and families are invited to join the African-American Equity Task Force at “Anchored in Literacy,” an event designed to celebrate African-American families and students and focused on the importance of reading and writing in education. The event is 5pm-7:30 p.m. Nov. 12 at Evie Dennis Campus Student Union Commons, 4800 Telluride St.

Please RSVP  here . This event serves as the kickoff to the African-American Parent and Family Institute, a series of workshops hosted by the task force dedicated to educating and informing families on how to navigate DPS’ systems and structures in order to best advocate for their student’s needs.

DPS Communication Update

SchoolMessenger
DPS is starting to use a new system to alert families when there is an emergency at school. Starting mid-November, DPS will begin using SchoolMessenger to send emergency messages to parent and guardian contacts. These messages include text, email and phone communications related to school closures, early releases or late starts, as well as messages about lockdowns or lockouts.
Look for a welcome message from SchoolMessenger  on Nov. 12, which will come as a text, phone call or email, based on your preferences in Infinite Campus (IC).

Message Preferences
Families will receive messages based on the preferences they set in Infinite Campus (IC), including contact method and language preferences. To adjust your preferences, log in to your  Parent Portal  account.

Note from Front Office

Parents:

If you plan on picking your child up early from school, please stop by the office and the office staff will call them to the office.  Please do not proceed to the classroom.  Please keep in mind that the school day ends at 3:50pm, and when you go to the classroom to pick up your child early, you are disrupting the learning environment of the classroom.

Also, please keep in mind that picking up your child 20 minutes early each day equates to a little less that 1.75 hours of missed learning time per week.

Thank you for your cooperation with this matter.
Thanksgiving Lunch

Our Thanksgiving Lunch here at Hallett will take place on November 21st. We need all RSVPs so the cafeteria staff can place orders!
Note From DPS

Help us plan for the DPS of the future

DPS is considering asking voters for tax funds to support a bond initiative and mill levy override in 2020, and we want parents and families to have a voice about where and how these funds would best serve current and future students. The 2020 Community Planning and Advisory Committee (CPAC) will play a critical role in creating recommendations on future updated buildings and play spaces, improved technology and other essential investments that will ensure quality learning environments for all students. We’re currently accepting applications from members of the DPS community, including parents/guardians, students, educators, community members and alumni. See  here  for the CPAC application -- available in English, Spanish and Vietnamese -- and more details.
