Around the Square                                         April  2019

"The sun was warm but the wind was chill.
You know how it is with an April day
When the sun is out and the wind is still,
You're one month on in the middle of May.
But if you so much as dare to speak,
A cloud comes over the sunlit arch,
A wind comes off a frozen peak,
And you're two months back in the middle of March."
-Robert Frost, Two Tramps in Mud Time

In April's capricious transition to spring, there's lots of new growth to celebrate in Kennett Square. There are new restaurants, art, music, and spring blooms to enjoy.

Speaking of April poetry, the opening of Square Pear Gallery's " Poetry of the Body" show is this Friday, April 5th. Stop in between 6 and 9 p.m. to enjoy sculpture and painting by Olga Nielsen, John Slivijak, Marianne Tebbens, and Al Moretti, as well as music by the Al Moretti Trio. On Saturday, April 6th, support over 70 local artisans and the classes of 2021 and 2022 at the Kennett High School Spring Craft Fair.

Mark your calendar for the Spring Beautification Plant Sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 27th and bring home herbs, vegetable starts, and ornamental plants to beautify your garden. All proceeds pay for the gorgeous planters and hanging baskets that adorn the streets of Kennett Square throughout the growing season. April 27th is also the day to be inspired to improve your family's health and well-being at Healthy Kids Day, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Kennett Square's restaurant scene continues to flourish with newly opened Café de Thai, as well as the eagerly anticipated re-opening of Portabellos in their new, expanded location on East State Street and the opening of Evergreen Café & Bakery in Cannery Row. For the most up-to-date information on these openings, follow Historic Kennett Square and Portabellos of Kennett Square on Facebook as well as The Evergreen Cafe. And while the opening of the weekly Farmers Market is just around the corner in May, don't forget the final two weeks of the Winter Farmers Market. Support the local growers and producers who have brought us locally grown goodness through the winter months on Friday April 12th and Friday April 26th, from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

As we look forward to new flavors from all of our local chefs this spring, Historic Kennett Square brings you the story of Verbena BYOB's chef-owner  Scott Morozin in this month's installment of the " Meet Our Merchants"  series. There are no shortcuts for Morozin, who is on a quest for what he calls "an organic, soulful balance" in his food.

Whatever the weather, please remember to #loveitlikealocal and support our independent, locally owned small businesses and restaurants. #shopKSQ #deliciousKSQ
