Moves by big tech companies (Tesla, Google, Apple, etc.) get most of the attention in Northern Nevada, however, smaller startups also play an important role to the area - here are five examples - from the many dozens that have set up shop in the Reno/Sparks area.

Breadware: Relocating their headquarters from Santa Barbara to Reno last year. Breadware provides development solution for businesses launching Internet of Things initiatives.
The Sufferfest: Operating internationally in Singapore and Australia, the Sufferfest opened up their first US location in Reno last month. The company provides an app-based training system for endurance athletes.
Talage: Founded in Reno, provides a digital marketplace for small business insurance, has plans to triple the size of their team in the next year.
MyVR: A cloud-based multi-channel management platform for vacation rental businesses, San Francisco-based MyVR expanded to Reno earlier this year.
Bombora: A provider of intent data for business-to-business marketers, New York City-based Bombora expanded to Reno in 2015. Since, it's Reno branch has grown to 45 employees, including 37 UNR graduates or student interns.
"We are at the brink of a fourth industrial revolution, a new economy," Governor Sandoval said. "This community, and this state, has to be at the foundation and the beginning of this fourth industrial revolution so that we can position this state as the new economy establishes itself ... that we have the students, that we have the ecosystem, that we have the environment, and can be the community - that everybody else points to as 'this is where we want to be.'"
Indeed, over the past five years, Northern Nevada has grown into a burgeoning tech hub, with tech giants staking flags in the region. Perhaps more quietly, surges of smaller startups have been planting their roots in Reno-Sparks and growing quickly.
