Summer + Planes + Love = Camp Season!
Budding trees and blooming flowers are annual signals of the busy season to come for AFC Staff and volunteer pilots.  Between May and August, 250-300 children will be traveling to and from special-needs camps throughout the Midwest.  It is such a joy to serve these wonderful kids.
Children with HIV/AIDS, heart disease, burns and cancer will excitingly board the planes of generous AFC Volunteer Pilots to spend a week in a camp environment specifically designed for their needs.  If you think the campers are the only ones who benefit, read this heartwarming article of a Volunteer Pilot's prospective.
So let's get ready for the campers!  A spring appeal letter will arrive in your mailboxes this week ( or donate here ). This is your chance to financially support the screening, coordination and scheduling of all of AFC's summer activity. We encourage and appreciate your consideration.
Volunteer Pilots-  please read, complete and return/upload your Camp Flight Annual Pilot Affirmation.  This form is again required to participate in the camp flight season.

Giving Hope Wings with Community Events

Kenny King, Brendan Sneegas and Jerry's owner, Mike Rounkles
We wish to thank Kenny King and Jerry's Bait Shop Bar & Grill in Lenexa, Kansas.  On Saturday, January 27 th , they teamed up for their second annual "Giving Hope Wings" fundraiser. The event was a lot of fun and an incredible success. The event raised $3,800 for AFC. That total was matched by a very generous anonymous donor. Hats off to Kenny and Jerry's for a job well done!
AFC's 4th Annual "Neighbors Helping Neighbors" fundraiser and outreach event was held on Thursday, March 8th . One hundred and fifty neighbors came together at the Boulevard Brewery in Kansas  City to learn more about AFC's mission, enjoy delicious BBQ from Joe's KC, listen to some great music as well as enjoy the Big 12 Basketball Tournament on the big screens.
AFC's Neighbors Helping Neighbors 2018 Event
The evening was highlighted by Lauren Williams who spoke about the service AFC provided to her adorable 8 year old daughter, Brooklyn, as she battled a potentially blinding eye disease. Brooklyn was on hand as well to thank everyone for coming and for supporting the organization that is helping her. Brooklyn received a standing ovation from those in attendance at the end of her mom's talk. It was truly a moment to remember. AFC would like to send a special thank you to our two Premier Sponsors for the evening's events, Stormont Vail Health as well as Jan and Mike McGraw. All attendees departed with a souvenir Angel Flight Central/Boulevard Brewery commemorative glass.

A New Face at AFC
Ashley King, Flight Coordinator
New Staff arrive in preparation for the retiring Simpson.
The entire Angel Flight Central family is thrilled to welcome Ashley King as the new Flight Coordinator.  Ashley comes to AFC after 12 years as a 911 Operator, and a track record of excellent customer service, reliability and a very engaging and compassionate personality.  We are so lucky to have her and encourage you to give her a call and welcome her!
Glenda Simpson

We are also filled with great sadness to salute the retiring Glenda Simpson after an incredible 7.5 years as Administrative Specialist.  Glenda's passion, dedication, hard work and skill set have enabled AFC to grow into a reliable, responsible and respected organization.  Glenda will be retiring in May.  We wish her and her equally-generous husband, Sid, nothing but the best as they head into retirement.  Thank you Glenda for all that you have done for us!  You will be dearly missed.
