WE'RE TAKING A BREAK FROM OUR COVID-19 IMPACT STORIES TO SHARE SOME GOOD NEWS!

NEWPORT BEACH CIVIC CENTER PARK SCULPTURES PHASE V SELECTED

Shortly before the COVID-19 crisis took over and dominated our attention, there was this good news from the City of Newport Beach. The City Council approved selections for Phase V of the Sculpture Exhibition in Civic Center Park at a meeting last month. The works are scheduled to be installed in late May for a June opening, pending extension of stay at home directives. Arts Orange County is privileged to have served as the consultant for this program since its inception.

The Phase V sculptures are as follows (left to right, down):
Cosmo by Roger Heitzman, Scotts Valley, CA
Fractured Peace by Nancy Mooslin, Los Angeles, CA
I'm Listening by Monica Wyatt, Studio City, CA
The Unbearable Lightness of Being by Patricia Vader, Martinez, CA
Seated Diana by Curt Brill, Tucson, AZ
Link of Humanity by Danette Landry, Napa, CA
Window to the Sea by Andra Broekelschen, Corona del Mar, CA

IMAGINATION CELEBRATION POSTER WINNER

Although the 2020 Imagination Celebration has been cancelled, submissions to its annual poster contest were already received and judged prior to the stay at home directive. The winner is "Super Surplus," (above) by Nathan Nam, a 15 year old 10th grader at Cypress High School, Anaheim Union High School District, whose teacher was Dean Delgado. This was Nathan's interpretation of this year's theme: "Imagination Counts."
TWENTY OTHER TOP CHOICES ARE FEATURED IN THE "PEOPLE'S CHOICE" CONTEST--YOU CAN VOTE ON THEM HERE THROUGH TOMORROW, APRIL 12.
All of the works will be displayed in an online virtual exhibition to replace the annual exhibition held at the Showcase Gallery at South Coast Plaza Village operated by Orange County Fine Arts.
