Dear Friends in Christ,
This statue of Our Lady and the Child Jesus is found in the north transept of Mount Angel Abbey in Oregon. When I was in the seminary, it was a favorite place for me to go for prayer, especially the Rosary. I loved being in that spot on a late autumn afternoon, with the sun coming through the stained glass and illuminating Mary and the child with a warm glow. The outstretched arms of the baby Jesus are a welcome invitation to be embraced by both the Divine and maternal love of Jesus and Mary.
As the pandemic worsens in our area and around the world, we are in much need of such an embrace. And, it can be ours if we go to prayer with the hope that we are in the loving care of the Lord Jesus and His and our mother, Mary.
The monks of Mount Angel Abbey composed a beautiful prayer for these times that I share below. It’s a new prayer. But they also chant a very old, ancient prayer after compline (night prayer) that comes from the 14th century and was composed during the black plague of that period. The monks chant the Stella Caeli prayer before this statue every night, for us and for the world.
I give you these prayers and ask that you join me and the monks in prayer. Please pray them from the heart, that we might be spared from the ravages of the Covid pandemic, and that we are given hope to see the end of these challenging times soon.

Prayer to Our Lady
Holy Virgin of Guadalupe, Queen of the Angels and Mother of the Americas. We fly to you today as your beloved children. We ask you to intercede for us with your Son, as you did at the wedding in Cana.
Pray for us, loving Mother, and gain for our nation and world, and for all our families and loved ones, the protection of your holy angels, that we may be spared the worst of this illness.
For those already afflicted, we ask you to obtain the grace of healing and deliverance. Hear the cries of those who are vulnerable and fearful, wipe away their tears, and help them to trust.
In this time of trial and testing, teach all of us in the Church to love one another and to be patient and kind. Help us to bring the peace of Jesus to our land and to our hearts.
We come to you with confidence, knowing that you truly are our compassionate mother, health of the sick, and cause of our joy.
Shelter us under the mantle of your protection, keep us in the embrace of your arms, help us always to know the love of your Son, Jesus. Amen.

Parish Stewardship

David signed and mailed over 1500 letters last week and asks everyone who has not pledged to prayerfully evaluate their giving to the parish and community. Weekly Offertory
An offertory collection basket is located at the back of the sanctuary during Mass for contactless giving. If you are unable to attend Mass in person, please mail in your gift or consider Online Giving, — Fr. David gives this way! It is safe and easy.

How to come to Mass
Mass Reservations
- The archdiocese longer requires parishes to keep a record of Mass attendees for contact tracing. Please continue to be vigilant regarding your health and stay home if you are feeling unwell.
- You will no longer need to make a reservation for a daily Mass at any of our parishes.

Reservations for weekend liturgies are REQUIRED so we don't exceed the maximum building occupancy set by the State of Washington. Reservation records are destroyed after each Mass.

Register for weekend liturgy and arrive 10 minutes before mass begins.

COVID-19 Update
We learned that a person at Holy Cross Parish tested positive for COVID-19. They were at Mass on October 24 - 25. The Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department (TPCH) has been informed and at this time, we have determined that there were no “close contacts” with parishioners. By definition, close contact is someone who was within six feet of an infected person for a total of 15 minutes or more over 24 hours. Read more

Livestreaming Mass
Mass is livestreamed from St. Patrick Church on Sundays at 9 am. The all-school Mass at 9 AM a few Fridays each month and Mass on the first Friday of each month at 11 AM are also livestreamed and holy days.
Subscribing to our YouTube Channel is not necessary, however it allows you to set reminders to tune in and provides us with the option of livestreaming from a mobile device when we reach 1000 subscribers. We're so close!

Book of the Dead
The month of November is dedicated to the Holy Souls in Purgatory. The Church commemorates all her faithful children who have departed from this life, but have not yet attained the joys of heaven. The Book of the Dead is placed in the sanctuary this month and it contains the names of our dearly departed friends and family.
If you would like to add names to the book send us an email. Names will be written into the book for you. Names added in the past three years are in the book.

Archbishop Etienne began Year of the Eucharist on the Feast of Corpus Christi for the Archdiocese of Seattle and asked us to spend this time pondering the true presence of Jesus's Sacred Body and Blood in the Eucharist.
