Dear Alumni,
I am writing this introduction to the April
Blue and Gold
as the Admissions Director of Allen-Stevenson. Some of you probably remember me as the Director of the Lower School. After 23 years in that position I have graduated to the Admissions Office! I followed Ronnie Jankoff who was our Director of Admissions for about 24 years and who did an outstanding job. In my third year in this role, I am truly enjoying meeting the many families who are interested in having their sons attend Allen-Stevenson, as well as the excitement of creating our school’s community and its future!
As March came to a close, so too did the 2018-19 admissions season. All the admissions decisions have been made and we are eagerly awaiting the arrival of our newest “Unicorns” in September.
The vast majority of our students enter Allen-Stevenson for Kindergarten. This September our incoming kindergarten class of 50 students comes from over 26 Early Childhood Centers or nursery schools. We take great pride in attracting a diverse group of boys and families from a wide range of schools and neighborhoods throughout the city.
Boys also enter Allen-Stevenson in other grades. This coming September we are expecting 12 to 14 new boys in Grades 2 through 7.
Families continue to be interested in Allen-Stevenson for many reasons. First and foremost is that we provide a quality education for boys in a warm, caring and inclusive community.
In addition, some of the core values in our Mission Statement also attract our families. Our beliefs that there are many ways to be a boy and many ways to be
successful, our program with excellence and opportunities in the 3 A’s - Academics, Athletics and the Arts (especially our music program), our Enlightened Traditional approach to teaching and learning, and the way we inspire boys to become Gentlemen and Scholars are all pillars of Allen-Stevenson and important aspects of why families select the School for their sons. Perhaps these are the same reasons your parents decided to send you to Allen-Stevenson?
Allen-Stevenson loves to have sons of legacies join our school. Three of our new incoming kindergarten boys have fathers who attended A-S! If you have a son and are living in New York City, feel free to reach out and contact me!
Spring tours of Allen-Stevenson begin the second week of April. Sign up for these tours can be found in the admissions section of our website.
If you are an alum and want to see the School, feel free to give me a call directly at 212-606-0883.
I look forward to welcoming you back!
All the best,
Susan Etess P'00
