GIS Leadership Academy - A Third Program Added!

The URISA GIS Leadership Academy has enjoyed steady and enthusiastic participation since it was first presented in 2007. Since then, nearly 700 GIS professionals have attended the specialized five-day GIS leadership and management training program that focuses on:
  • GIS leadership and management techniques
  • GIS Strategic planning
  • Successful team development
  • Organizational capacity building and sustainability strategies (ROI, innovative funding ideas)
  • Program investment and justification
  • Change management
  • Situation assessment and organizational performance evaluation
  • Ethics and professional challenges
  • Problem solving
Each GLA includes numerous interactive exercises, team-building tools, and opportunities to delve into topics in a way you cannot do at a large conference. Attendance is limited in size to encourage such interaction with each event capped at about 50 participants.

We can likely accommodate a few more people in the  URISA GIS Leadership Academy in Salt Lake City in late July. If you would like to join us, or arrange for one of your superstar staff to attend, please register immediately

To meet demand, for the first time, URISA will host the GIS Leadership Academy three times in one calendar year. We'll be in Austin, Texas during the week of December 3, 2018. Another great venue in a cool city. Check it out and register early!

Be Inspired by URISA's GISCorps

We're all extremely proud of this URISA program, founded in 2003, which connects GIS expertise with under-served communities an in response to emergencies around the globe. Hang out for half an hour with founder, Shoreh Elhami, via this recent URISA webinar. Learn about the amazing missions that GISCorps volunteers have contributed to and learn how you can participate.

If you're going to the Esri User Conference,  be sure to Visit URISA's GISCorps in the Sustainable World Exhibit  and attend the URISA's GISCorps Annual Meeting on Wednesday, July 11, from 11:30 am - 12:30 pm in SDCC - Room 25 B.

Speaking of Webinars...

URISA's Professional Education Committee has another FREE opportunity on the schedule for URISA members. Don't miss   FEMA and GIS: The Role of Technology and Data in Disaster Management on  Monday, July 30, 2018 from
2:00 pm to 3:00 pm Eastern.

Our presenter, Chris Vaughan, serves as the FEMA Geospatial Information Officer where he champions and coordinates geospatial technologies across multiple response and recovery programs. Though free for members, pre-registration is required. Click here.

GISP Prep Webinar: We recently hosted a very well-attended two-part virtual event for URISA members. The first part of the program discussed the reasons that the GISP credential is worth pursuing as well as what is involved in completing each part of the application. The second part explored the topics that you need to be familiar with for each of the knowledge areas covered by the GISP exam.  If you missed the webinar, you can access the presentation and the recorded webinar here at your convenience.  The content will also be presented as a full-day workshop at GIS-Pro & CalGIS 2018 in Palm Springs in October and will likely also be available following the conference as a stand-alone workshop .
