Winneconne Community School District continues its Journey.
As many of you know, WCSD embarked on a journey - A Journey to the Future. It started with the creation of our motto, Destination School District. This motto has been the driving force to continually strive to make WCSD a great school district for students, families, staff, and a district that makes our community members proud.
Chapter one of our journey centered around our now completed STEAM renovation/addition and our Winneconne Community Arts Center (WCAC). As we turn to chapter two of our Journey to the Future, we decided we needed to look down the road a bit in order to ensure our positive momentum moving forward.
The Road Ahead: Community Growth Projections and School Facilities Study
Maintaining school buildings is an ongoing effort. The WCSD Board of Education is creating a long-term facilities plan to develop a well-thought out coordinated approach. The first step is to obtain current information so that we may make strategic decisions about future investments into its school buildings and infrastructure.
The most recent facilities study occurred approximately 15 years ago. The Board recently approved two new studies to equip the Board and administration team with up-to-date information. On July 16, the Board of Education approved an enrollment projection study and a facilities study. Both studies are to occur this school year. The Board selected Plunkett Rayish Architectural firm for the long-range facilities study. It selected MDRoffers, a consulting firm, to complete the population study. The updated information will serve as a roadmap for a facilities vision for the next 15 plus years.
The facilities study will examine and then provide a report about the physical condition of all the District's buildings. The population study will identify where population growth and change is likely to occur within the District’s boundaries and present information about the impact that any projected change will have on District programs and facilities.
The Board and the administrative team expect the first phase of results sometime between November and December. We will most certainly keep you informed on the progress of these studies. We will also present their findings to the community. It should be interesting. Stay tuned!
The members of Board of Education and I are committed to keeping the community informed about the District’s progress and all decisions impacting our schools. If you have any questions, please contact me at (920) 582-5802 ext. 3141 or
