A message from Rabbi Silverman
I look forward to seeing you at our congregational seder on April 15 (the Monday before Pesach begins). After rave reviews from last year, we will be partnering again with the Bethel Community Transformation Center, as together we explore the journey toward freedom and justice through ritual, reflection, story, song, and, of course, a delicious meal.
We are expecting to reach capacity early this year, so I encourage you to
register as early as possible. Thanks to generous support from the Jewish Fund, there is no cost to attend.
Please also
reach out if I can be of assistance as you prepare for Pesach. From haggadah recommendations to questions about quinoa (yes, it can be kosher for Passover), I am happy to be of help. And in particular, if you are looking for a place to go for a 1st or 2nd night seder, or if you have extra seats at your seder table, please be in touch.

Isaac Agree Downtown Synagogue
This year, our congregational seder will be held prior to Passover on Monday, April 15th from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the Downtown Synagogue. Our seder will be an opportunity for our community to explore our journey toward freedom and justice in partnership with the Bethel Community Transformation Center.
Attendance at the seder is limited to the first 70 who reserve seats. Consequently, we ask that you respond immediately, as we expect to reach capacity again this year. As this is an RSVP event, please register
online or call the office at (313) 962-4047. The deadline for submitting reservations is Thursday, April 11th, so please don't delay.
The seder is free of cost and open to the community due to the graciousness of The Jewish Fund. If you are able to make a donation to help offset costs, please visit our
website. We look forward to seeing you soon!
Passover Yoga and the Freedom to Flow
Monday, April 22nd, 6:00 p.m. - 8 :00 p.m.
Isaac Agree Downtown Synagogue
Join us for a community yoga class dedicated to embodying the Passover holiday. We'll use traditional yoga poses to explore self compassion and creating spaces within constricted joints and muscles. Our flow will focus on the parts of our bodies that need to move freely for us to be healthy.
Props for stretching will be provided but please bring a yoga mat and wear comfortable clothes. We hope to share this special evening with you!
Hygiene Kit Assembly at Affirmations Ferndale

Join the Downtown Synagogue in partnership with Affirmations, a community space providing a welcoming space where people of all sexual orientations, gender identities & expressions, and cultures can find support and unconditional acceptance, and where they can learn, grow, socialize and feel safe.
We will be assembling hygiene kits for community members in need, as kits will be dispersed at Affirmations' facility and during Ferndale Pride 2019 in June! Please

Yiddish Classes at the Downtown Synagogue!
Are you interested in connecting with the Yiddish language?! Then this is the class to begin your journey!
We will be offering a language and culture course teaching Yiddish through the artistic and political movements of (mostly) nineteenth and twentieth century Ashkenazic Jews, giving students the linguistic knowledge to further unearth the Yiddish lexicon for themselves.
Subjects covered: Yiddishland, Yiddish dialects, Yiddish linguistic theories, Yiddish-American slang, Classics, Satire, Folksongs, Poetry, Theater, Film, Socialism, Communism, Anarchism, Yiddish Expressionism and Introspectivism, Yiddish and Hebrew, Yiddish and German, Yiddish and Israel.
There will be a total of 8 sessions. Classes will begin
May 5th, 2019, and will be held on
Sundays, 2:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. at the Downtown Synagogue. Classes will be led by Ollie Elkus, Yiddish translator.

| Call for Mi Shebeirach
During our Shabbat morning worship, we read the names of people in our community who are in need of healing. As we invoke God's blessing, we also become more aware of the people who could use a little extra care. Please let us know if you would like us to read the name of a loved one.

We're always seeking volunteers to help us in the kitchen! We pride ourselves on our delicious home cooked Shabbat meals. If you want to contribute to the synagogue by cooking, please contact our Kitchen Coodinator to get on the schedule.
Clean House!
As we work to clean up and clear out in our Synagogue, we ask your cooperation. If you notice a spill, please wipe it up. If you drop crumbs, please clean them up. If you use the kitchen, please clean up. If you have extra papers or handouts, please take them home to recycle them. Just a reminder: please no food or drinks (other than water) are allowed on the 2nd floor. As we continue to create our welcoming communal home, please help us to keep it inviting. As the saying goes, "it takes a village."

Services at 6:00 pm followed by a deliciously prepared Kosher vegetarian dinner. End your hectic work week with

Where would Jews be without the Torah? Torah is the center of our Saturday Shabbat service. It is a mitzvah to make a
minyan so we can read the Torah and people can say
kaddish. Please come to the Saturday morning Shabbat service at 10:00. We want to pass the Torah
l'dor vador.
