Sixteenth Street hosts Governor's Task Force on Opioid Abuse
Sixteenth Street proudly hosted the Governor's Task Force on Opioid Abuse in April. Chris Rasch, Director of Government and Community Relations, and Maria Perez, VP of Behavioral Health, had the opportunity to say a few words about our thoughts on and work in the substance abuse space, as well as answer questions posed by the Task Force.
Nearly 14,000 flu vaccines given across Sixteenth Street clinics

Sixteenth Street gave an astounding 13,600 flu vaccines to patients, staff and community members during the 2017-18 flu season - and Sixteenth Street clinical staff were vaccinated at a 99% rate! Vaccinating such large numbers help not only our patients, but the entire community, including our very young and elderly population, who may not have the same access. These numbers speak to the level of dedication and concern our hardworking Medical Assistants and clinical staff have for the community.
A note from Julie Schuller, President and CEO of Sixteenth Street, on the 2018 Health Equity Summit
I want to personally thank everyone who attended our 2018 Health Equity Summit. ZNA vs DNA: Zip Code and Children's Health - which was more than 500 people! Just by being in the room, you showed your commitment to facing hard truths and coming up with real solutions.

Our vision was to bring the community together and not only learn, but explore new ways of thinking and discuss collaborating in news spaces to create systemic improvement. Thanks to all of you, this vision was realized, and now it's time to roll up our sleeves and get to work. I'm very much looking forward to meeting with my fellow Southside CEOs in June to come up with an action plan for moving forward, that will involve all of you and most importantly, the residents of the communities we serve.

Remember, action doesn't come from thought or conversation. It comes from a readiness to take responsibility. And I think we're all ready.

"
I think a lot about how hard it must be for someone who is struggling with an additction and trying to quit cold turkey without help. It must be nearly impossible."

After years of a good living working in manual labor, then in a chemical plant, I found myself in the hospital. I'm a diabetic and was experiencing excessive weight gain, among a whole string of other issues. My daughter was worried, and she was right to be.  Once in the hospital, I was put into a coma to be stabilized because my heart rate was too high. After being stabilized and brought out of the coma, I went ...
