In the past, the November newsletter had us talking about Quilt Market and Quilt Week in Houston along with reporting on our Quilters’ Quest shop hop. What a difference a year makes!

As many of you are spending time at home, working on UFOs, we here at the Studio are doing the same thing. We are finishing up those projects which have languished for months or years. Pictured here is my Labyrinth quilt, created for the 2016 Quilters’ Quest. I did not get to quilting the borders before Quest started and planned to finish it just after. Well, here it is four years later and I’m just getting to it. This quilt was a remake of a Palette quilt from 2003 and after it was so popular at Quest, we reworked it again to showcase my batik fabrics. It is featured below.

Revisiting Labyrinth
The earlier version of Labyrinth was known as either Sunset Walk or Winding Walk depending on the colorway. The quilt, then as now, features a beautifully interlaced design and is currently made with shaded fabrics from my Malam batiks. The blocks are quick to make with strip piecing and a partial seam at the center of each block. Don’t let the thought of a partial seam scare you. You can see how easy it is here.

Our kits include the pattern and everything you need to make the quilt top plus the binding. The Labyrinth kits are available in two colors, earth and sea, and two sizes.

Border Print Lesson #7 – Finishing Your Quilt with a Border Print
This final lesson brings us to the final step in finishing a quilt top—adding the border. I frame most of my quilts with border print fabrics. While the cutting and mitering are the same as adding a border with plain fabrics, there are a couple of differences.

On our website, you will find both video and print tutorials using my easy, no-math method of adding mitered border print fabrics to a square or rectangular quilt along with tips for how much fabric to purchase, how to avoid “wavy” corners and how to add binding to the quilt to avoid covering up any of the border fabric’s design.
