Dear Educators,
Please be aware that our Department of Technology Services (DoTS) has identified a large phishing campaign aimed at DPS teachers. Phishing is a malicious attempt by cyber criminals to gather sensitive information, such as usernames, passwords or credit card details. These emails are often disguised as coming from a trustworthy source – and in this case, the emails appear to be coming from school leaders.
This recent phishing email has been sent to teachers using their school principal’s name but did NOT come from the leader’s dpsk12.org or dpsk12.net email addresses. It is requesting that teachers text the principal at a specific cellphone number, and later requests that the teachers purchase a gift card that the school will later reimburse.
To keep your information safe, do not reply to either these emails or text messages and
report it
immediately. If you think you may have engaged with this phishing attempt, please contact the
DoTS Service Desk.
As a reminder, if you ever receive a suspicious email, follow these instructions:
- If you are using Outlook on a PC, select the Report Phish button to report the email.
There is no need to report the message to DoTS Help. Our Information Security team will review the message to determine whether it is a threat.
For additional information, please read
this letter from DoTS and visit this
