Update on the Cascade Show
After a thorough review off all facility options and dates by show management and the Region 5 Board, we have decided to cancel the 2019 Cascade Youth Benefit show. While some might not know, the Cascade Show is the primary fundraiser for Region 5 Youth and supports their activities throughout the year including the youth judging team, non-horse youth activities, Region 5 Youth attendance at AHA Youth Board meetings, etc.

Please consider extending your support to the youth through other sponsorship opportunities this year. Region 5 Youth are currently selling garlands for the Region 5 Main Ring Championship show at $50 each. All youth are welcome to participate for the chance to win a first place prize of a custom soft shell jacket from The Hat Lady, second place $100 show credit or a $50 show credit. Contact your nearest youth or send your sponsorship direct!

Thank you for your continued support of Region 5 Youth and be on the lookout for fundraising events throughout the year.

The 2019 Region 10 Championship Show was held June 12-16 at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds in St. Paul, MN.  Our exhibitors came well prepared, and ably showed their horses to our judging panel of Kelly Elm, Deb Witty, and Mark Owens.

Each year we have special activities/events at the Region 10 Championship and this year our volunteers outdid themselves.  "Arabians Salute Our Heroes" was the 2019 Region 10 Charity Event.  This was, and will continue into 2020, to benefit the All Glory Project and support therapeutic riding programs for veterans in Minnesota and Wisconsin.  The charity was also in collaboration with Horses for Humanity - the "Goldie" Project.  Activities included a Veterans Memorial Wall, "Honor Night" All-American dinner with entertainment, flag day, and Glory Calcutta classes.  In addition, artists from Gallery Equus in Minneapolis revealed their design for painting "Goldie", following the theme "Arabians Salute Our Heroes".

To keep the month of June very active, the Region 10 Distance Riding Championships were held June 15-16th in Preston, MN.  And, to complete the month, the Region 10 Dressage/Sport Horse/Western Dressage Championship was held June 22-23rd in West Bend, WI.

July and August offer additional opportunities for competition, including both AHA/USEF shows and open shows and distance rides.  Check out our calendar at:  http://region10arabians.com

REGIONAL INSIDER
July, 2019

The Region XI Championship Show was held during the first week in July for the final year without our beloved Illinois State Fair Coliseum! We had another great show this year but are looking forward to being back in our true home next year! The progress on the Coliseum was amazing just in the few days that we were in Springfield. We were so happy to see some of our regular barns back with us for '19 and look forward to seeing all of our "old" friends along with several new friends next year in 2020! The Show Commission is looking forward to putting on 2020's show in the newly renovated Coliseum and has some great plans for a successful return to our home next year! Stay tuned for more information on that in the months ahead!

A special thank you goes out to our faithful exhibitors for your patience and cooperation during these years of change. You have our utmost gratitude for standing your ground with us throughout this time! THANK YOU!!!

Region 12 News

The 31st Annual Region 12 Youth Jamboree was held July 10-14, 2019 at the T. Ed Garrison Arena/Clemson University. Seventy eight (78) young riders enjoyed three days of youth clinics with a range of topics from western pleasure, english pleasure, dressage, hunters, showmanship, trail, terminology, saddle fitting and more. A AHA Value show was held the last two days. Region 12 is proud to have been the creator and continuous sponsor of this outstanding youth program. This has been a great platform to market our Arabians to a different audience, having sold a few each year to non-Arabian people.

This is a photo of Shannon Jett on Irresistible Magic AD, the Cathy Gage Memorial Trophy winner at the Hoosier Horse Classic.

The Region XIII Championship shows are in the books! Despite rain, rain and more rain, they were a big success. The Hoosier Horse Classic and Offsite Regional Dressage and Sport Horse Championship in Edinburgh, IN was a great show. The show management and committee did an amazing job juggling arenas and classes to try and keep everyone as dry as possible. Despite the rain a great time was had by all. The Indiana Half-Arabian Horse Club donated a beautiful tray in memory of past Region 13 director, Sport Horse National show commissioner and IHAHC member, Cathy Gage, who passed away last fall. Cathy's passion was dressage, so the Tray will be awarded annually at the Hoosier Horse Classic to the highest score in Training Level AATR Tests 1, 2, or 3. This year's winner is Shannon Jett. Shannon posted the high score riding her Arabian, Irresistible Magic AD. Congratulations!
The Region XIII Championship show, held again in Wilmington, Ohio at The World Equestrian Center was a great show! It too had torrential rainstorms the first couple of days, but as the facility is basically under one roof, everyone managed to stay happy and dry. We are happy to report that attendance continues to grow. It was great to welcome new faces and horses as well as welcoming so many old friends. The exhibitor party was a huge success! Everyone also seemed to enjoy the great shopping, wonderful food, spa, doggy wash and the snacks and open bar at the out gate each evening. The show management, committee, WEC employees, exhibitors and the amazing facility was a winning recipe for a wonderful show. Get ready for next year! Lots of fun new things are planned!

Miss Alexa McVoy is the 2019 recipient of the Region XIII Youth Excellence Scholarship. She began riding at age 2 and has shown to regional and nationals titles with her Arabian, JD Cruise Control. Her love of Arabian horses led her to start a yearly summer camp for at-risk girls. Among her many accolades are membership in the National Honor Society, being honored with the Michigan Governor's Service Learning Award and graduating with 4.3 GPA. Alexa enters Grand Valley State University this Fall, where she will study Social Work, in hopes of becoming an equine-assisted psychotherapist. Congratulations Alexa. You are a remarkable young woman!

The Region 17 Championship show was held May 2-5 at the Thunderbird Show Park in Langley British Columbia. It was a great event and accolades go to the Show commission and members of the All Arabian Association of BC (AAHABC) for the hard work they put into hosting a wonderful show with great fun activities.

The exemplary judging panel was:

Vicky Humphrey, Jeff Lee and Pam Zimmerman - Main Ring
Linda Dieno, Melonie Kessler - Dressage
Joan Curtin - SH Hunter

Anyone who has been to Thunderbird knows that it is a wonderful facility built for world-class equine event. Competitors were greeted by the ever-smiling Marion Enders in the show office and enjoyed several activities including a progressive barn dinner in which incredible hors d'oeuvres, salads, main courses and desserts were offered to everyone. Oh yes, and some good wine selections as well!

Our official photographer: Ashley Lauren has photos posted of the event. If you want to see the proofs go to  www.ashleylaurenphotos.pixieset.com.

Next year's show moves to Red Deer, Alberta during the last week of June. Here's hoping that you mark your calendar and come participate in this wonderful Regional show.

--------------------------------------------------------------

Vancouver Island Arabian Horse Association (VIAHA): held a very successful show mid April to help those members wanting to qualify for the Regional Show - and everyone who needed to qualify did!

The highlight of the show was the AHA Achievement awards presentation to two long-time and well-known members. Gerald McDonald and Sandra Gilbert- Stockhausen.

TC VICTORIAS SECRET++ was presented with her LEGION OF MERIT. Vicky as she is called at home is a 14-year-old Arabian mare, sired by Matinee Bey out of the Huckleberry Bey daughter Monica Bey. Vicky is bred and owned by Gerald and Kathy McDonald of Twin Cedars Arabians, and ridden exclusively by our president Sandra Gilbert-Stockhausen.  For Vicky's Legion of Merit, she had to earn 75 points, with a minimum of 30 in breeding/in-hand and 30 in performance, and now has "++" added to her name.

Vicky has been shown successfully in Halter, Sport Horse In-Hand and Dressage. At Western Canadian Breeders, she won Reserve Champion in Arabian Mares AOTH and at Regional shows, she has won multiple Top 5s, Reserve Championships and Championships in Sport Horse In-Hand, both Dressage Type and Hunter Type. At the 2018 Sport Horse Nationals, she won a Top Ten for Arabian Mares in-Hand ATH Dressage Type and Hunter Type. Under Saddle, Vicky has been successful in Dressage at Open shows and at Arabian shows, including Regionals
.

SANDRA GILBERT-STOCKHAUSEN was presented with 2 plaques from AHA in recognition of her accomplishments, one for RIDER OF HONOR and one for HORSEMAN OF MERIT.

2019 marks the 60th year that Sandra has been riding horses and she competed in her first horse show on her 7th birthday. Over the years she has owned several horses for trail riding and/or showing. With Surnik, a talented big gray Arabian gelding, Sandra developed a love for Dressage and mastered the divisions of Side Saddle, Native Costume, Hunter over Fences and, of course, Older Than Dirt.
