A Message from the City Manager...
|
Spring is here at last and the weather is finally getting warmer with Elsinore's Superbloom happening on a smaller scale throughout the city. I hope you are enjoying this beautiful time of year with family and friends and I encourage you to take a moment to step outside and enjoy the fresh air. This time of year is also when the city is hit with a ridiculous amount of weed growth which will be worse due to the large amount of rain we received. While we at the City struggle to clear all of the parks and open spaces, we ask that you help us by keeping your yards as free of weeds as possible.
As a reminder, the City's Weed Abatement Program is governed by the Murrieta Municipal Code, Title 8, Chapter 8.32. Property owners in the City of Murrieta are required to maintain their property in a clean and safe condition throughout the entire year.
In addition, fire season will begin once all of this greenery dies off so it is important to be vigilant as embers can carry many miles. If you have any questions about weed abatement, please contact [email protected].
If you need more encouragement, here are a few reasons to clean up weeds:
- Having a nicely groomed yard will increase your property value
- Long weeds can lead to brush fire
- Weeds are known for carrying diseases which can be harmful for children and pets
- Weeds can take away from the aesthetic feel of your property and neighborhood
- Your HOA and/or Code Enforcement can ticket you for overgrown weeds
- Long weeds can serve as a hiding place for animals and/or other vectors, such as rattle snakes

Murrieta Academy of Music and Performing Arts celebrated 15 years in business with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Friday, March 8. They offer music lessons and performing arts classes to residents of surrounding cities such as Temecula, Menifee, Wildomar, Canyon Lake, and Lake Elsinore. Murrieta Academy of Music and Performing Arts provides classes to a variety of age groups and holds a "Music Fun Time" class, a nationally recognized program for young beginners between the ages of 2 and 7. Graybill Medical Group hosted a Ribbon Cutting on Thursday, March 14, to celebrate their Grand Opening in Murrieta, which is their newest office in South Riverside County. Graybill started

Miss April's Dance celebrated their five year membership with the Murrieta/Wildomar Chamber of Commerce with a Ribbon Cutting on Tuesday, March 19. April Vidal, Owner of Miss April's Dance, has been teaching classes in Murrieta for over 30 years, and has become a valuable member of the Murrieta community. Miss April's Dance has an assortment of classes to choose from and they host summer dance camps, morning and evening classes, and even mommy and me classes for families to enjoy. Click

Please join Murrieta Fire & Rescue for our 72nd Annual Firefighters BBQ, which is Riverside County's longest running community event. The barbeque is more than family, food, and fun, it's also an opportunity for local businesses to promote their products and services to the community and the
Fire Explorers
to show off their skills at the Muster. There will even be a cornhole tournament in the beverage garden. So, come on out, have some food, and enjoy the day!
Enjoy the thinly-sliced, slow-cooked, smoked tri-tip with beans, potato salad, and a drink for $10, or the kid's hot dog meal, which includes chips and a drink, for $5. All meals are prepared by our own firefighters and served by the City Council, city employees, business owners, and residents.

On Tuesday, March 19, Murrieta City Council approved a contract between Murrieta PD and Axon for the purchase of a body worn camera system for all officers and field technicians. The Police Department conducted research on several body worn camera systems over the last 18 months and Axon was selected as the best fit for the department and the community. A body worn camera program strengthens the already strong partnership MPD has with the community they serve. Police management believes the body worn camera program will ensure Murrieta Police Officers are accountable for their actions as well as provide outstanding evidence for criminal cases. A BWC program provides the transparency and accountability the Police Department is always striving for and aligns with the department's mission of providing the highest quality police service using technology and innovation. Murrieta residents can expect to start seeing the cameras in use in late June of 2019.

Murrieta All-Stars: Student Athlete Edition
|
This month we would like to highlight our amazing student athletes who have continued their athletic careers at the collegiate level.
Cody Williams graduated from Murrieta Valley High School in 2018. After a very successful high school career, Cody accepted a starting role as the kicker for Portland State University. While attending MVHS, Cody was a very active member of our community and volunteered for a number of non-profit organizations. Cody is studying business administration with a concentration in marketing and development. After college, Cody plans on playing professional football in the NFL!

Seth Acda graduated from Vista Murrieta in 2015. After his outstanding high school football career, Seth went on to play for Riverside City College. Seth is now a senior and starting running back at Davenport University. He is majoring in business management and has plans of playing in the NFL after college.

Upcoming Library Programs
|
The Murrieta Public Library offers a variety of programs for all ages. Coming up on April 2, at 10 a.m. is
Annie Banannie: 3 Little Pigs
for families. Using balloons, Annie Banannie weaves together an unforgettable and hilarious tale in her signature storyteller style. On April 11, at 4 p.m., children ages 3-12 can go to
LEGO Club
for an opportunity to build their own unique creations. For the teens there will be a
Teen Safety Information Class
on April 1, at 5 p.m. Presented by Murrieta Fire and Rescue, teens will learn about basic first aid, AED, CPR, Internet Safety and driving. In honor of National Poetry Month there will be a
Teen Poetry Writing Contest for grades 6-12. Teens can submit an original poem April 1 - 15, for a chance to win a Visa gift card. For adults there is Walking Readers, who meet every Thursday, weather permitting, at the Library entrance at 8:30 a.m. for a 30 minute walk around the Library neighborhood.
ESL
continues each Tuesday from 5 - 6:30 p.m. with Kevin Cole of Basic ESL. Kevin will help students focus on improving their English speaking, listening, building vocabulary, reading and writing skills.

13th Annual Youth Talent Showcase
|
The City of Murrieta's Youth Advisory Committee is hosting its 13th Annual
Youth Talent
Showcase from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday, April 13, at the Community Center. Application deadline is Wednesday, April 3. Participants are required to be between 5 and 18 years old and the event is open to amateur groups or individuals with acts no longer than four minutes in length. The cost is $3 per person for attendance to the show (12 and under FREE). The crowd favorite wins a $100 gift card.

This year's
Spring Eggstravaganza will take place on Saturday, April 20, from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. at Town Square Park. There will be six egg hunt categories broken down by ages. There will also be an under 2-year-old and special needs areas cordoned off. Over 10,000 eggs are to be hunted and there will be lots of fun activities for the kids as well as an opportunity for pictures with the bunny. In addition to the egg hunting, families can review class information and ask questions of various instructors at The Rec Expo, which is to take place at the same time. The Rec Expo showcases the talents of our recreation class instructors and allows residents the opportunity to ask questions.

The Consortium for Early Learning Services has partnered with the City of Murrieta in hosting the
Day of the Young Child. The event is scheduled to take place on Saturday, April 27, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Avaxat Elementary School. A range of children's performances and activities will be on hand for the participants. The event is FREE for the public to attend.

To celebrate
Earth Day, staff is coordinating a bike valet service at the Senior Center parking lot in conjunction with
Murrieta Fire and Rescue's Fighfighters BBQ taking place at the Murrieta Community Center on Sunday, April 28, from 11:30 to 4 p.m. Your bike will be watched while you enjoy the BBQ, fire muster, and other events taking place that day. Adult Alternative Recreation Program
|
The City's Adult Alternative Recreation Program (ARP) offers social activities for special needs adults, 18 years and older, each month on Fridays from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Murrieta Senior Center. April's event will take place on Friday, April 12, and its theme for the evening is a "Basket Full of Fun" where participants get to enjoy all the great things the Easter Bunny delivers.
