Gaillard’s New Memoir “Live As If… A Teacher’s Love Story”
University of South Alabama Writer in Residence Frye Gaillard's new memoir “Live As If… A Teacher’s Love Story” has just been published. This work is deeply personal to Gaillard as he reflects on the life and work of his wife Nancy, who died of leukemia in 2018. Nancy joined the faculty of the USA College of Education and Professional Studies in 2004 and later retired as an assistant professor. Frye’s new book recounts Nancy’s extraordinary life, revealing her heroism as a teacher, chronicling her resilience, and portraying the courage of her everyday choices and actions.
CAEP Accreditation of Teacher Preparation Programs
The USA College of Education and Professional Studies teacher education programs have been re-accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) from 2020 to 2027. Accreditation was granted with no stipulations and no areas for improvement.
Robert Noyce Scholarship Program
The Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship Program, funded by the National Science Foundation in the USA College of Education and Professional Studies, seeks to encourage talented science, technology, engineering and mathematics majors and professionals to become K-12 mathematics and science teachers. Program scholars (l-r) Peyton Barlow, Anthony Thames and Pamela McPherson share how the scholarship changed their trajectory.
Playing the Role of Trailblazer
Benjamin Pelham, a PASSAGE USA alumnus, was recently featured in an interview on WKRG News. Benjamin is part of the cast in the movie “Embattled," which premiered last month and will be shown in select theaters. The movie is also available for streaming on Google Play, YouTube, Netflix and iTunes. 
University-Wide Support for Adult Learners
The USA Chapter of Alpha Sigma Lambda recognizes academically outstanding adult and non-traditional students in higher education. USA Director of Adult Learner Services Bob Charlebois was recently selected as the new Alpha Sigma Lambda National member-at-large board member. Learn more about the office and meet a few recent graduates that served as members of the society below.
Director of SARIC Featured in "Next in Ed" Podcast
Dr. Stephanie Hulon, director of the South Alabama Research and Inservice Center (SARIC), was recently featured in a "Next in Ed" podcast. Hulon has worked tirelessly during the pandemic to provide support and professional development for more than 7,500 K-12 educators in the surrounding five counties. Click below to hear the interview.
Upward & Onward Raises $160.9 Million
The University of South Alabama completed its $150 million Upward & Onward campaign on September 30, exceeding its goal by $10.9 million by raising $160.9 million. More than 23,000 individuals, businesses and foundations donated to the campaign.
