AACSB RENEWS DUAL ACCREDITATION FOR FIVE MORE YEARS
AACSB Peer Reviewers meet EAC members
The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business this month renewed the accreditations of the Muma College of Business and the Lynn Pippenger School of Accountancy. The designation makes the college one of just 186 around the world with the dual accreditation. AACSB reviewers came here in January to examine records and procedures and interviewed faculty, staff, alumni and students before making  recommendations to the board of directors. DARREN WELLS: EXECUTIVE IN RESIDENCE AND MBA COACH
Darren Wells
The Muma College of Business's Office of Graduate Affairs has hired Darren Wells to be its MBA coach and executive-in-residence to advise and mentor MBA students. A former executive with Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, Wells brings a wealth of leadership experience with him. In the position, Wells advises graduate students in the various MBA programs on topics such as how to get high-paying jobs after graduation or finding ways to climb the ladder in the jobs they already have. DEAN MOEZ LIMAYEM AWARDED ADMINISTRATIVE FULBRIGHT

Moez Limayem, the dean of the Muma College of Business since 2012, was awarded an administrative Fulbright scholarship last month. Limayem will travel to Japan for two weeks in June to network with administrators and faculty at universities there. Upon his return, the dean will bring back what he has learned to share with business faculty and other deans on the USF campus. To read more, click here.
LASHER CENTER FOR FINANCIAL MARKETS NOW A REALITY
Lasher Center dedication
Scores of faculty, students, administrators and alumni turned out to help dedicate the Lasher Center for Financial Markets this month. The BSN 2100 classroom has undergone extensive renovation funded through a generous gift from Stuart and Tyler Lasher. Renovations include stock tickers and a Bloomberg terminal that connects students to real-time market movement around the world. To read more, click here.
STUDENT SPOTLIGHT: NANDINI AGARWAL, 18, SETS GOALS HIGH
Nandini Agarwal
Nandini Agarwal is off and running. A freshman at USF, she is working on a Business Honors thesis that examines gender inequality in her native India. She's also working to create an app that helps refugees and immigrants adjust to the U.S. financial system and she has helped teach disaster preparedness to 1,000 children in 50 elementary schools. INAUGURAL SELLING WITH THE BULLS EVENT DRAWS 60 STUDENTS 
Quick pitch underway
USF students with a penchant for sales signed up for the Selling with the Bulls competition held earlier this month. The two-day, community-involvement affair included sales conversations and case competitions and a quick pitch contest in which students had three minutes to pitch themselves to real corporate representatives. That presentation, if properly delivered, could possibly turn into future employment. To read more, click here.
DOREEN MACAULAY NAMED MUMA OUTSTANDING TEACHER

Midway through a recent teaching symposium, the attending business educators took time out to honor one of their own. Karla "Doreen" MacAulay, an instructor with the Information Systems and Decision Sciences Department, was named the recipient of this year's Muma College of Business Outstanding Teacher Award.

JORDAN ZIMMERMAN'S MESSAGE IS CLEAR: DREAM BIGGER

Advertising guru Jordan Zimmerman, who started his $3 billion business while he was enrolled in MBA classes here at USF, spoke to more than 250 students in the atrium last month. His message, and that of Broward County Public Defender Howard Finkelstein, was perseverance in order to overcome adversity. SPORT AND ENTERTAINMENT TRENDS COME TO LIGHT AT SEAC
SEAC, a big success
Hundreds of students, faculty and leaders in the sport and entertainment industry attended the fourth-annual Sport and Entertainment Analytics Conference last month. Guest speakers talked about data collection, analytics and creativity at the two-day event held in the Gibbons Alumni Center. Speakers and panelists ranged from analytics experts to marketers from professional sports teams.  To read more, click here.
HEVNER, DISTINGUISHED UNIVERSITY PROF, TALKS INNOVATION

Alan Hevner lives, breathes and preaches innovation. And the Information Systems and Decision Sciences Department professor's commitment to his science has rewarded him with accolades to fill up a large wall and cover most of his mantel, including the USF Distinguished University Professor award. This month, the Eminent Scholar delivered his Distinguished University Professor seminar, titled "Innovative Design in Scientific Research," at the Patel Center for Global Solutions. Dave Dunkel took a chance back in the 1980s, moving a regional staffing company to Tampa. He took another chance a decade later when he introduced the Internet into his business. Since then, Dunkel has guided Kforce to a multi-billion-dollar corporation. He sat with Muma College of Business Dean Moez Limayem to talk about the ups and downs of business, career and life. NEW PROGRAM WELCOMES FRESHMEN OVER SUMMER SESSION 
Bulls to Business
An innovative program undertaken by the Muma College of Business aims to get high-achieving freshmen into the fold during this summer session. Bulls to Business students will get into a residence hall and begin taking courses ahead of the fall schedule. They also are eligible to take a special math course allowing them to bypass college algebra and still be prepared for business calculus in the fall. A professional development course also is offered in the program. PECHA KUCHA BOILS RESEARCH DOWN TO 6 MINUTES, 40 SECONDS
Pecha Kucha: a challenge
Taking your life's work and making it fit into a presentation that lasts just six minutes and 40 seconds can be a near impossible task. But a handful of Muma College of Business researchers recently took up the challenge in a Pecha Kucha exercise that hones communication skills in a unique way. PowerPoint slides automatically advance in 20 seconds and presenters must keep up or lose their timing. To read more, click here.
SPORT AND ENTERTAINMENT STUDENTS HIT THE CITY OF ANGELS

Graduate students with the Vinik Sport & Entertainment Management Program made a trip to Los Angeles last month. The week-long excursion offered a chance to meet with professionals from Ticketmaster, Fox Sports Studios, the Los Angeles Dodgers and more. Besides learning about ways the industry is run, the dual-degree-program students also got a chance to network with execs. To read more, click here.
FACULTY/STAFF NOTES 
  • Dipayan Biswas recently received the Outstanding Area Editor Award from the Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science. Biswas, a marketing professor, was cited for strong contributions and for being a part of the journal's success in publishing high-quality research. He will be recognized at an upcoming editorial board meeting.
  • The Collier Student Success Center received the USF Provost's Award for helping students succeed in the Muma College of Busienss. The award was announced earlier this month at the USF Student Success Awards Luncheon.
  • Lauren Baumgarten, who works in the DBA program, was the recipient of the Quiet Quality Award from the Staff Senate this week. The award recognizes staff members who are consistently conscientious, professional, self-directed and team oriented.
  • Alan Hevner, professor in the Information Systems and Decision Sciences Department and recipient of the prestigious Distinguished University Professor award, spoke at a seminar in the Patel College for Global Sustainability this month. Hevner also recently traveled to his alma mater, Purdue University, where he accepted a 2018 Distinguished Computer Science Alumni Award.
  • Lu Thompson, office manager with the USF Center for Entrepreneurship, retired last month, after two decades of working at USF. Thompson has been with the center from the beginning.
  • Alex Miller has joined the college's human resources group and will help post student job ads, process appointments for the dean's office and update HR manuals.
  • Janie Ann Malson has been hired as an admissions recruiting advisor with Graduate Studies. She will recruit and counsel prospective grad students. She takers over for Erin Smith, now with the development team.
  • Thomas Stablein has joined the Information Systems and Decision Sciences Department as an assistant program director.
 
ALUMNI NOTES   
  • Brian Lamb ('98, Accounting) was named to Savoy Magazine's 2018 list of the Top 100 Most Influential Blacks in Corporate America. Lamb, who chairs the USF Board of Trustees, is executive vice president, head of wealth and asset management for Fifth Third Bank.
  • Scott Hopes ('17, DBA) was elected chairman of the Manatee County School Board. He is a former member of the USF Board of Trustees.
  • Belkys Llanes ('97, MIS) is a member advocate for the American Veterinary Medical Association Life. She previously was AVMA Life's administrator in sales and agent support.
  • Shirley Pekarek ('90, Accounting) was appointed controller for United Landmark Associates, a Tampa Bay area branding and marketing firm. She previously was vice president of finance for Paradise Advertising.
  • Alan Michael West ('96, General Business Administration; '05 Accounting) is now the chair of the Florida Institute of CPAs. He works at the University of Florida as an assistant vice president and controller.
  • Francesco P. Carriera ('04, Finance) received the Chairman's Circle of Excellence Award from Marcus & Millichap, a real estate investment firm. He has worked at the firm's Tampa office since 2006.
  • Jennifer Jensen ('00, Management; '02, MBA) was appointed to the Friends of Joshua House Foundation Board of Directors. The Joshua House is a therapeutic group home in Lutz for children who have been abused, neglected or abandoned.

 
* April 19, 2 p.m., the Applied Security Analysis class will deliver its final presentations to a panel made up of Tampa Bay area investors and financial planners. The presentations, which are pitches to invest real money, are to be held in BSN 221. A reception will immediately follow.
