Crystal Apple Award Nominees
|
|
Congratulations to our
32 nominees for the 2019 Crystal Apple Award, recognizing excellence in education! The nominees will be honored at the Crystal Apple Awards Dinner on Thursday, April 11, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., at NW Events & Environments, 2900 NE Century Blvd. #100.
Tickets to the dinner are $60 and can be purchased on the Hillsboro Chamber's
website.

HRA Education Sessions

If you are a licensed or classified employee currently enrolled in Moda Dogwood, Kaiser 2, or Kaiser 3, and are not familiar with the Hillsboro Preferred Plan/Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA) and/or how to file claims, be sure to stop by one of the
upcoming trainings to speak with someone who can help you understand this benefit.

Spring Hillsboro Schools Summit Recap
|
|
Our Spring Hillsboro Schools Summit attendees were treated to a serenade by the Liberty High School
a cappella choir, and student testimonials about the importance of career-related learning programs and bond-funded enhancements at their schools. They also learned more about our budget situation, the importance of legislative advocacy, accomplishments and upcoming projects of the 2017 Bond, and student achievement results. Click

Westside Kinder Fair
|
|
The first of two
Kindergarten Fairs is taking place this Thursday, April 4, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Lincoln Street Elementary School, 801 NE Lincoln St. The event offers free food and a free book for each incoming kinder, fun literacy and math activities, registration information, community resources, and more. Though not required,
pre-registration will allow us to better serve attendees.

Hillsboro Big Picture Open House
|
|
|
Hillsboro Big Picture School (HBP) is an alternative option for high school students who are interested in playing an active role in designing and implementing their own learning. Open house events will be held on Thursdays, April 4 and 18, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at HBP, 440 SE Oak St. The events are intended for high school students and their families, especially incoming ninth-graders. Get an overview of the program, meet current staff and families, tour classrooms, and learn about the application process for 2019-20. Questions? Contact

Native American Powwow
|
|
HSD's Indian Education Program is pleased to announce and invite the community to attend a
traditional Powwow this Friday, April 5, from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., at Liberty High School, 7445 NE Wagon Dr. Doors open at 5 p.m., a community dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m., and the Grand Entry is at 6 p.m. Fry bread, arts and crafts, and other items will be available for sale at the event.

Spring Superintendent Coffee Chats
|
|
|
Superintendent Scott has announced the schedule for his
spring Coffee Chats:
- Thursday, April 18, 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., at the South Store Café
- Tuesday, April 23, 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., at Manaia
- Friday, April 26, 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., at the downtown Insomnia
- Tuesday, April 30, 8 a.m. to 9 a.m., at Longbottom.
There will also be a Spanish language Coffee Chat on
Thursday, May 2, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., at Lincoln Street Elementary School. These casual, no-host events provide patrons an opportunity to hear about important things going on in HSD and ask any questions they may have.

IGNiTE Applications Now Open
|
|
|
HSD's Inspiring Growth Now in Teacher Education (IGNiTE) program is now accepting applications from high school students who are interested in learning more about the education profession. This leadership program provides mentoring for youth in their career exploration and will highlight opportunities in our diverse and fast-growing community. TAG You're It!

TAG-identified students in grades K-6 are invited to participate in the next TAG You're It! event on Saturday, April 13, from 9 a.m. to noon, at Patterson Elementary School, 261 NE Lenox St. Classes include free-form painting, mandalas, maker space, chess basics, and more! Two parent sessions will also be offered: "Surviving Middle School," and "Underachievement in Gifted Students." Learn more

LatinX Community Town Hall

State Reps. Susan McLain, Courtney Neron, and Janeen Sollman, and State Senator Chuck Riley will hold a
LatinX Community Town Hall at Brown Middle School on Friday, April 5, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., to answer questions and concerns from community members about the current legislative session. Interpretation in Spanish and English will be provided.

Hillsboro Police Host Dogs & Donuts

Join Hillsboro Police Officers and K9s at the Brookwood Public Library on Sunday, April 7, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., for their
Dogs & Donuts event. Attendees can meet the officers and their police dogs, watch demonstrations, and enjoy a complimentary doughnut.
