A Word from Andrew... Good News in a Time of 'Fake News': Reawakening A Spirituality of Humanness...

Dear Pine Street Church Members and Friends,

TOMORROW, Sunday, June 17, we will begin a summer message series timely titled, "Good News in a Time of 'Fake News': Reawakening A Spirituality of Humanness."

"Fake news" has become a cultural mantra for the comments by anyone who doesn't like a reported story, whether it's true or not. Too often people prefer propaganda to truth, even when it comes to Christianity. But it doesn't have to be this way. There is a better way, but we must re-imagine and reawaken a spirituality of what it means to be fully human and fully alive; a spirituality that is both human and humane. A Christianity that is worthy of Christ. We need something more of what one magazine has as a regular feature: "The week's good news(It wasn't all bad!)"

It's true that we live in a time of mind-spinning news cycles that can leave us feeling everything from despair to outrage; anger to courage; paralysis to motivation.

Beyond the oh-so-real and heartbreaking news of such headlines (just this week) of the Attorney General citing Romans 13 as a horrific justification for the current presidential administration's policy of separating parents from children at the border, we need a deeply-rooted (alternative) Christianity that can speak to the times of our lives and the life of our times.

By now you know that we have a brand new spiritual symbol and mantra (see above): Embrace Everyone. Inspire Life. Create More.

We will begin this summertime series with our first "two-word" sermon that was distilled from Pine Street Church's core values: Embrace everyone.

Join all of your fellow Pine-heads tomorrow as we seek good news in a time of 'fake news' and as we ready our souls to be reawakened to a spirituality of humanness.

Humanly,
Andrew
