Stockhoff selected as the next Benton County Public Works Director

Gary Stockhoff has been hired to serve as the next Benton County Public Works Director, beginning on June 4, 2018.  Stockhoff has been serving as the County Engineer in Washington County, Oregon since 2008, and also has thirteen years experience as a Deputy Director in California and Nevada. 
 

Stockhoff's experience will greatly benefit our the county's Transportation System Plan and other ongoing and upcoming county initiatives and priorities.

May 15th Primary Election

Ballots were mailed April 25th and should have arrived shortly afterwards. Voters who have not received a ballot should contact the Benton County Elections Office for a replacement ballot. 

The County Voters' Pamphlet will be included within the State of Oregon Voters' Pamphlet for this election. Pamphlets were scheduled for delivery to all Benton County households between April 17th and 21st. Extra copies of the Voters' Pamphlet are available at the Elections Office and online at  https://goo.gl/h5Mnuq .

County honors public health advocates and partners at annual awards event

Shawn Collins, Program Manager of the Housing Opportunities Action Council, was honored at Tuesday night's annual Public Health Awards & Recognition Event as the 2018 recipient of the Sheldon Wagner Public Health Service Award. 

Since becoming Program Manager of the Housing Opportunities Action Council in 2016, Shawn Collins has emerged as a key community leader in addressing homelessness and housing instability in Benton County. 

Benton County Community Development Director Greg Verret received the Roger Irvin Health in all Policies Award.  In addition to the recognition and awards portion of the program, t he Benton County Board of Commissioners convened as the Board of Health endorsing the work of the 2018-2022 Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP).
Benton County honors Crime Victims' Rights Week 

The County Commissioners proclaimed the week of  April 8-14, 2018 as Crime Victims' Rights Week, and reaffirmed Benton County's dedication to strengthening victims and survivors in the aftermath of crime, building resilience in our communities and our victim responders,  and working for justice for all crime victims and survivors.

In 2017, the Benton County District Attorney's Office Victim Assistance Program assisted 1,656 crime victims. In connection with Crime Victims' Rights Week, Victim Assistance Program staff put flags in the Benton County Courthouse lawn on April 6th to honor the victims that were assisted in 2017.

EPA Brownfields grants - totaling $1.6 million - will help Oregon assess, clean up and revitalize Brownfields properties

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has selected Corvallis as one of three communities in Oregon to receive $600,000 from EPA's Brownfields Grants program. These funds will provide key support toward the assessment, cleanup and revitalization of regional Brownfields properties.


Assessment activities will focus on the Cities of Corvallis, Albany, Monroe, and Philomath, and Benton County, which all serve as coalition partners.

EPA's Brownfields Program expands the ability of communities to recycle vacant and abandoned properties for new, productive reuses, using existing infrastructure. These grants leverage other public and private investments, and improve local economies through property cleanup and redevelopment.

Environmental Health issues scam alert

Environmental Health has received reports of restaurants receiving phone calls from someone identifying themselves as a Health Inspector calling from Benton County Environmental Health.

The caller has been reported to alert restaurant establishments they owe money and instructs them to provide a credit card number over the phone to pay the balance due.

The Benton County Environmental Health Division will never call demanding payment over the phone. Please do not respond by providing any type of banking or credit card information, or personal information, to the caller. If you receive a call or voicemail, hang up and report the scammer to the Sheriff's Office at 541-766-6858.
