Old Woodward Reconstruction Project Update - 6/18/18

The installation of the new concrete on S. Old Woodward (S. of Maple Rd.) continued Sunday (6/17/18) as crews opted to forgo Father's Day celebrations to lay the next strip of the new concrete roadway following a rain out from work on Saturday (6/16/18).

Crews poured and paved the new concrete for the southbound lane of Old Woodward, meaning the north and south bound lanes of S. Old Woodward are now paved from Maple Rd. to Brown. Contractors will next install the left center turn lane, anticipated to be complete by the end of the week.

Meanwhile, the excavation work for the new tree wells is underway on Maple Rd. and will continue throughout the week. The new tree wells will feature organic-structural soil which will help the new trees grow well into the future.

Finally, contractors continue to remove and replace the aging pavement at the intersection of Brown and Old Woodward with the new concrete roadway. The City thanks you for your patience and understanding as it works to complete the needed repairs to the Brown and Old Woodward intersection so it can be reopened as soon as possible.

With a targeted completion date of early August, the underground infrastructure improvements and the above ground enhancements on Old Woodward will result in a modernized downtown core that City residents, merchants, stakeholders and visitors will be proud of and enjoy for decades to come. In the meantime, the public is encouraged to visit downtown and see the transformation first-hand while supporting city merchants. As a reminder, free parking in all City parking structures is now available on weekends (Saturday and Sunday) along with four, two-hour free valet parking stands strategically located near the construction zone.
