Welcome to the 2019-2020 School Year!
From the Desk of Dale Van Keuren....
Dale Van Keuren
Principal
Welcome to the first edition of Falcon Focus for the 2019-20 school year. This Back-to-School edition highlights key information informing you of tasks that need your attention so everything is ready for that first day of school!

The most important and required task is annual registration, which is online and opens August 12th. You should have received a mailing outlining the procedures required to register your child for the upcoming school year. This registration process takes place in the parent portal of Infinite Campus. Registration information is also located on our website www.westosha.k12.wi.us . If you have not received this letter or have misplaced it, please contact Nancy Switalla by phone at 262-843-2321 ext. 382 or by email at [email protected] .

In addition to completing the annual registration, all students will need to have their picture taken for their school ID/Yearbook picture. Students will need their ID starting the first day of school. Therefore, if you have not done so already, mark your calendar for either August 20 or August 26, for student ID/Yearbook pictures.

Finally, I would like to share information about our course and school schedule. August 12th is not only the opening day of registration, but it is also the first day students will be able to see their 2019-20 course schedule. Unless a student had selected a class and had a schedule conflict, your child's schedule reflects the chosen courses from this past spring. As students view their schedule, they may wish to change courses. Unfortunately, the flexibility to change classes may not be possible. While a few seats are left open for students new to our district, there are very few, if any, open seats after new students are added. Sometimes a student is lucky, and another student we planned for has moved or another student was able to switch their course. These situations and opportunities are unpredictable and our school counselors will do their best to fit schedules. Further, I would like to remind you it is our practice to not make schedule changes for teacher preference. Again, it is important that you understand this process so that when schedules cannot be changed you understand why that is the case.

In closing, thank you for taking the time to review all pertinent information and for promptly taking care of annual registration by the deadline of August 23. I am looking forward to a wonderful school year, and meeting you all in person during my first year as principal.

Parent Responsibility Regarding
Student Attendance

As another school year begins, we would like to remind parents of their responsibility to notify the school when their child will not be attending school.

Our  Attendance Procedures are located on the "CHS Families" page of our website. The procedures identify expectations when students are gone, need to leave early or are planning an extended absence.

When a student is not going to be at school,  the school must be notified by 8 a.m. on the day they are out. The easiest way to notify the school is to call the Attendance Line at (262) 843-3820 and leave a message that clearly states your name, your child's name, the reason for the absence and a contact number if there are further questions.

If a student is not in attendance, whether it is for a full day or a single period, and no excuse called in, an automated message will be sent to parents indicating this unexcused absence and the need to clear it up. Please understand that absences not cleared up remain unexcused and can subject the student to school discipline and/or truancy citations due to the Wisconsin Compulsory Attendance law.

Lastly, if your child needs to leave school for part of a day because of an appointment,  a written note from parents indicating the reason and time, must be provided in advance. Delivering messages and/or personal belongings to students during the day is not always possible. Parents are kindly being asked to plan ahead to eliminate/reduce these requests.

Regular attendance is essential for success; However, on days when your child is not feeling well or has an appointment, we thank parents for their cooperation in ensuring attendance procedures are being followed.
Online Registration Opens August 12

The Parent Portal of Infinite Campus opens on Monday, August 12. The Parent Portal allows parents to register students online, complete the handbook and technology acknowledgments, update health and contact information, and pay student fees.

Your Parent Portal ID and password are necessary to complete the online registration process.  If you have forgotten your ID and/or password, please email Debbie Cronin at [email protected] for assistance. The login page can be found on our website www.westosha.k12.wi.us under "CHS Families" - Infinite Campus (Parent/Student Portal). Also: please be sure to verify the accuracy of your email address (see the article above).

In-Person Assistance is available for families who do not have internet access or who may need help with the registration process. Staff will be available to answer questions on Tuesday, August 20, between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. for In-Person Assistance. If registration is completed online, it is not necessary to come to school for In-Person Assistance.
