Yaakov Zinberg Places Second in
John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Essay Contest
for High School Students
Senior Yaakov Zinberg has come in second in the John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Essay Contest for High School Students. Zinberg placed second in a competition of almost 2,000 essays. He will receive a $1,000 award for his essay about Ben Olcott, former governor of Oregon. Yaakovis the only student in all of New Jersey - from public and private school combined - to place in the contest.
The annual
Profile in Courage Essay Contest invites high school students from across the nation to write an essay on an act of political courage by a US elected official. The contest is a companion program of the John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award™, named for Kennedy's Pulitzer Prize-winning book,
Profiles in Courage, which recounts the stories of eight U.S. Senators who risked their careers, incurring the wrath of constituents or powerful interest groups, to make difficult decisions in the public interest. This year, 1,989 essays were submitted from students in forty-eight states, Guam, and from US citizens in the United Arab Emirates.

Three Sophomores Make Joint Siyum at Night Seder
Sophomores Ezra Baron, Ari Needle, and Sam Weinberg have been learning together during Night Seder since the beginning of the year. They recently completed Mesechet Chagiga. Last night, the three boys made a siyum, followed by dancing and donuts for all the boys and rebbeim at Night Seder.

TABC celebrated Lag B'Omer with food and fun. For lunch the students enjoyed food cooked by the very popular Wandering Que. The combination of delicious, filling BBQ and the beautiful weather brought smiles and left everyone in great spirits to enjoy an impromptu kumzitz with students, faculty and student musicians coming together. Later in the day, the students had the option of either playing archery tag or participating in/ watching the TABC rebbeim and faculty take on the JV and varsity basketball teams, in turn, during each half. At half time the faculty team was up by two points with a score of 37-35, with the exciting game ending in a 57-57 tie. A great day was had by all. For more photos, click here.

The latest TABC chesed trip headed out for Philadelphia on Sunday morning. The group packed and delivered food for those in need for the Jewish Relief Agency. From there, they went to the Ingles House, a home for wheelchair bound individuals, where they visited the paraplegic residents. Everyone davened Mincha in the famed Philadelphia Yeshiva and were privileged to hear a shmooze from Rosh Yeshiva Rav Shmuel Kaminetzky. From there, it was back to New Jersey for a well deserved break with Dougie's in Deal and time spent on the beach. On Monday, the group unpacked tins for Bikur Cholim of Lakewood. They later heard a shiur from Rav Olshin at the Beit Midrash Hagadol of Lakewood. The day ended with visiting residents at the Kessler Rehabilitation Center of West Orange, before returning to TABC. As TABC chesed coordinator Rabbi Kessel put it so well, they returned "exhausted, yet uplifted." For more photos, click here.

Rabbi Einhorn & Talmidim
Experience Lag B'Omer in New Square
|
Azrieli Doctoral students, along with Dr. David Pelcovitz, recently visited TABC as part of their studies on spirituality in teens. Rabbi Ezra Wiener greeted them and addressed some of the spiritual challenges Rebbeim face with their students. Rabbi Yoni Mandelstam informed the visitors about some unique programming TABC offers students to foster religious development outside of the classroom. The doctoral students then observed Judaic studies classes and interviewed students. We were honored to host this group as they strive to understand the key to successful spiritual development in high school.
