This week's survey:

(These survey questions are sent in by our readers. Please spend a minute to give your answer to this week's survey as one or possibly more of your industry peers thinks this question is important and wishes to see your point of view as well as others in the industry.)

The survey results on the question of .....:

What would you do if your media supplier went direct to your end customer and shared media prices?

  • I would seek out the person who did it & the person who authorised it & belt the crap out of them. & then change supplier.
  • tell them I am finding a new supplier. If it was a known brand I'd also contact them directly and complain.
  • I would also tell everyone I knew in the trade about them and do my best to make sure they lose as much business as possible.
  • This has been happening for many years.
  • Push your supplier hard for a discount. My suppliers already sell direct to public, so without my discount on materials I wouldn't be able to charge as necessary. This is one of the few industries where suppliers sell to the public, makes it very hard as a small shop to be competitive.
  • I am a media supplier. If any of my reps decided to go direct to an end user by passing our customer, that rep would be looking for another job... Should we be contacted directly by a end user wanting to purchase a very large amount of media, we would find out who was printing the job, and ensure that that company in question would get their fair share of the margin for the purchase. Doing anything else would be like hanging a sign saying "Going Out Of Business Shortly" on your office door!
  • A supplier of mine advertises and charges clients same price for stock as they charge me. I have to pay freight etc. I stopped using them. Suppliers should have trade and retail price. I imagine suppliers will not be happy if their suppliers of tape, inks etc. charged us the same price as they are charged.
  • I would be asking the question of them why? do they value us as a client or should be looking else where for someone that does. The media cost is such a small cost it would give the consumer a unrealistic impression of the costs to produce the work.

Smile: It's Monday!
(If you have a good joke or fu nny video for this section, please send to

Two men are playing golf. One of them is about to take a swing when a funeral procession appears on the road next to the course. He stops mid-swing, takes off his cap, closes his eyes, and bows his head in contemplation.

His opponent comments: "That must be the most touching thing I've ever seen. You are a very feeling man." The man, recovering himself, replies, "Yeah, well we were married 35 years."
