Assisting local Chinese Children's Welfare Institutes by providing pre and post-surgical care to abandoned Chinese orphan babies born with surgically correctable deformities. Shanghai Healing Home provides a home-like environment that meets not only the babies' physical needs but also their emotional and developmental needs.

The Shanghai Healing Home is funded 100% by the generous donations of our sponsors and one-time donors. We are very grateful to accept monetary or in-kind donations of any amount and form. A list of in-kind needs can be found on our website. Below are suggested sponsorship plans if you or a group of your friends would like to fully sponsor the cost of one baby's daily expenses.

How Can I Help?

Many people are asking us lately, "what can I do to help?". Right now, SHH is in need of new Baby Sponsorships. To date, we have a total of 12 fully sponsored babies and another 15 needing sponsorship. Baby sponsorships are a huge part of being able to pay the monthly expenses and care for the children. Even before we can pay for their medical needs and surgeries, we need to be able to pay for their daily needs in the home.

最近有很多人问我们，"我能帮到你们什么？"而现在，上海医治之家的宝贝们非常需要大家的帮助。目前为止，我们有12个全额赞助的孩子，还有15个孩子需要大家资助。在这个资助中，有很大一部分是给孩子提供每个月需要的费用和关怀。所以在我们支付孩子的医疗费用之前，我们需先提供给孩子日常用品。

Orientation meeting attendance is required for all first time visitors. Meetings are offered in Chinese and English.

Advocating For Adoption

Our little Pu FX adoption file is now ready! Pu FX is 7 1/2 years old and his medical conditions include scoliosis and external ear malformation. He has already had surgery on his back and he now wears a brace to support his back. He is currently waiting to have reconstructive surgery to construct an external ear canal. Right now in Shanghai the wait for this surgery is 2 years. While he is waiting for his surgery, he wears a bone conducting hearing aid to help with his hearing. He came to SHH last year in order to receive speech therapy. He is doing well in his speech therapy classes and is learning to communicate some through signs and verbal communication. Pu FX is able to feed himself and walk without assistance. He is very outgoing and loves interacting with his caregiver and our volunteers.

Volunteer Highlights

In February we had lots of fun celebrating Chinese New Year with our kids and staff at SHH. Chinese New Year is usually one of the busiest times at SHH because some of our caregivers are given time off to travel back to their hometown so they can celebrate with their families. However, despite our low staffing situation, the Home continued to run smoothly throughout CNY thanks to a lot of help from some of our regular volunteers who remained in Shanghai during the holiday. Every day we had several volunteers scheduled to come in and help us care for the kids.

二月份我们和孩子们以及SHH的工作人员一起庆祝中国新年，玩得很开心。中国新年通常是SHH最忙碌的时候之一，因为我们的一些阿姨们有时间回他们的家乡，这样他们就可以和家人一起庆祝。然而，尽管我们的人手不足，但一些在春节期间留在上海的志愿者的帮助，我们在春节期间一直运行得很顺利。每天我们都安排了几个志愿者来帮助我们照顾孩子。

Several generous donations were also given by our thoughtful donors with instructions to do something special for our children in celebration of CNY. So during that week we were able to do some extra special things with the children:

One afternoon we took the kids to watch the Peppa Pig CNY movie complete with popcorn.

One afternoon several of our staff and volunteers worked hard to make more than 400 dumplings. Our staff member that is in charge of making the dumplings is from a part of China that is famous for its dumplings so the dumplings were absolutely delicious!

一天的下午工作人员和志愿者们很努力的包了超过400个饺子。其中的一个工作人员的家乡在中国是以饺子出名的所以这些饺子一定非常美味！

We were very fortunate to experience an unusually warm spring-like day during CNY. We took advantage of the warm weather by taking the kids to the Wishing Star Park and Disneytown. To top off the evening, we stopped by the Cheesecake Factory for an amazing dinner. It was so much fun letting the kids get to try many different kinds of dishes and desserts!

我们很幸运在春节期间经历了一个异常温暖的一天。我们趁着天气暖和，带孩子们去了Wish Star公园和迪斯尼乐园。在晚上，我们在芝士蛋糕工厂里吃了一顿很棒的晚餐。让孩子们品尝各种各样的菜肴和甜点真是太有趣了!

And of course, it wouldn't be CNY without giving the kids a red pocket filled with candy!

当然春季里也少不了给孩子们红包和糖!

More Volunteer Highlights

志愿者活动

Our kids recently got to learn how to make real Italian pizza in a cooking class led by one of our regular SHH volunteers, Paola! She demonstrated and had the kids help her with each step of the process from preparing the crust to creating mini cheese pizzas. Once all the pizzas were finished cooking the kids got to enjoy their creations. I think you can see from their faces that all the kids really liked the pizza. Thank you so much Mrs. Paola for providing this experience for our kids!

Medical Need

We are thankful that our little Liang XY was able to receive the surgery he needed to have a more permanent type of feeding tube. Now, we need to rent an enteral feeding pump to control and regulate the continuous feedings he receives. The tubing for the pump also has to be replaced everyday. The cost for the pump and tubing is around 1500 RMB/month (approximately $224 USD/month).

Learning Center Corner & Volunteer Help Needed

Last month we were asking for some volunteers to come out regularly during the week to help us tutor some of our older kids. Thanks to our wonderful volunteers we have several individuals or tutoring groups coming out regularly during the week to help with kindergarten tutoring and English tutoring. We still need a volunteer who could come out regularly on Mondays and/or Thursdays to help with some tutoring. Reminder To Our Volunteers

Winter is over but we are still hearing of confirmed cases of Flu A throughout Shanghai. The staff at SHH would like to remind individuals and groups to be especially careful when visiting the Home during the cold and flu season. Please double check on the day of your visit that no one in your group is sick...even if someone is not running a fever but has a cough, congestion/runny nose, or sore throat we would ask that that individual not visit the Home because if one of our kids gets sick they will all get sick. At SHH we have to be even more cautious with our kids then you might be with a healthy child because many of our children have weakened immune systems because of their medical problem. So it is easier for our children to get really sick and end up in the hospital or ICU just because they get a cold or the flu.

冬天过去了，但上海各地仍有甲型流感确诊病例。SHH工作人员提醒个人和团体，在感冒和流感季节来访时要特别小心。请您在访问当天再次确认您的团队中没有人生病......即使某人没有发烧，但是咳嗽、鼻塞/流鼻涕或喉咙痛，我们也会要求不要来访，因为如果我们的孩子中有一个生病了，他们都会生病。在SHH，我们必须更加谨慎地对待我们的孩子，因为我们的许多孩子因为他们的身体原因而免疫系统下降。因此，我们的孩子更容易生病，因为感冒或流感而住进医院或ICU。

Lots of hand washing is especially important to protect our children and yourself from infection. Please be sure to use the alcohol hand sanitizer or soap & water when cleaning your hand. There also may be some extra restrictions for playing with the children when you visit depending on the health condition of our children the time of your visit so please check with us before going into the playrooms.

勤洗手对保护我们的孩子和自己免受感染十分重要。清洁双手时，请务必使用酒精洗手液或肥皂水。此外，根据孩子的健康状况及参观时间，参观时可能会有一些额外的限制，所以请在进入房间前与工作人员沟通。
