Strengthening Schools Through Arts Partnerships
Application Deadline: 11:59pm, June 1, 2018
Strengthening Schools Through Arts Partnerships (SSTAP) grants support substantive school/community partnerships that strengthen teaching and learning in arts education and/or arts integration in Arizona Title I schools.
Applications may focus on any number of effective models, but must utilize the proposed arts education and/or arts integration programming to address desired goals and outcomes aligned with at least one of the six principles in the school’s Comprehensive Needs Assessment, as developed by the Arizona Department of Education:

  • Effective Leadership
  • Effective Teachers and Instruction
  • Effective Organization of Time
  • Effective Curriculum
  • Conditions, Climate, and Culture
  • Family and Community Engagement
SSTAP 2016 & 2017 Evaluation Report
The Arts Commission recently published an evaluation report on the 2016 & 2017 SSTAP grantees. According to the report, prepared by an independent program evaluation firm, both programs delivered “an enhancement in teacher efficacy, a change in teaching practice, and an increase in student engagement.”

Arts Learning and Collaboration Grants
CYCLE A Deadline:

Arts Learning Collaboration Grants enhance the work of school-based arts teaching and learning programs through collaborative projects taking place in-school (during regular school hours), after-school, or during summer/inter-session and in-services.


Lifelong Arts Engagement Grants
CYCLE A Deadline:
11:59pm, May 31, 2018*
Lifelong Arts Engagement Grants support partnerships that foster meaningful arts learning experiences in a variety of community settings for learners of any age. Community/social service organizations or governmental entities partnered with arts organizations or professional teaching artists are eligible to apply.

Professional Development Grants
Cycle A Deadline:
11:59pm, May 31, 2018*
Professional Development Grants (PDG) are designed to assist Arizona artists, arts administrators, and arts educators with funding support for participation in professional development and skills-building activities which contribute to significant professional growth.

*   Arts Learning Collaboration Grants,   Lifelong Arts Engagement Grants, and Professional Development Grants are offered throughout the year on a three-deadline cycle:

CYCLE A Application Deadline: 11:59pm Thursday, May 31, 2018.
For projects taking place between July 1, 2018 and June 30, 2019.

The National Endowment for the Arts' vision for Arts Education is that every student is engaged and empowered through an excellent arts education. Arts Education funding is focused on students. Projects are for pre-K-12 students, the educators and artists who support them, and the schools and communities that serve them. All students are served when each level of the system is supported. Applicants should consider what role their proposed project plays within this system, and the impact their project has on students.

Youth Arts + Culture Council
City of Phoenix

Applications to be a part of the Youth Arts + Culture Council are NOW being accepted. In order to qualify, you must be 15-19 years old and live/work/or go to school in the city of Phoenix. Be a part of a civically-engaged, creative group of young leaders who advocate for and support youth representation in Phoenix.

ARTS LEARNING IN THE NEWS
New York State Considers Arts Assessment Option for High School Graduation
As New York continues to work toward expanding high school graduation options , the state is exploring options to assess students’ knowledge in arts disciplines. State officials are discussing potential models for an arts assessment, which could require students to submit a portfolio of work or take an arts test that would include performance evaluation.  

Pilot Arts Program Brings Arts Education to Detroit Schools
The Heidelberg Project is piloting a new program in four Detroit schools that creates access to arts education for students, either during the school day or after school. The Heidelberg Arts Leadership Academy consists of three nine-week programs that will support 100 students in developing artistic and leadership skills.

RESEARCH AND PUBLICATIONS
Diversity and Cultural Responsiveness in the Education Workforce
The Council of Chief State School Officers announced a new effort that seeks to diversify the education workforce and support educators in teaching students from different cultural backgrounds. A network of nine states, the Diverse and Learner-Ready Teachers Initiative will work to create plans to address challenges within each state.

Cross-Sector Coalition Releases Recommendations to Advance the Role of Creativity in Youth Development 
This National Action Blueprint identifies and prioritizes actionable strategies for increasing equitable access to creative youth development (CYD) for children and youth in the United States. The purpose is to drive collective action to advance the role of creativity in positive youth development.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Molly Blank Fund Teaching Artist Program 
ASU Gammage
Deadline: May 11, 2018
The Molly Blank Fund Teaching Artists Program is designed to create teaching artists in metro Phoenix that have been trained in the Kennedy Center Arts Integration Method. These teaching artists will develop residency lesson plans that will be implemented in a classroom setting. Teaching artists who complete the program will also be listed on ASU Gammage’s Teaching Artist roster helping them to secure future teaching opportunities. The program is limited to 30 local artists (both novice and experienced) who can commit to the entire program.

For completing the four-day training seminars, Teaching Artists will receive a $300 stipend. Teaching Artists must obtain a fingerprint clearance card by September 15th and will be reimbursed after providing receipt. Upon finishing the other requirements of the program, Teaching Artists will receive an additional $200 stipend.

Lincoln Center Education’s flagship professional development program for arts education. Artists, teachers, and administrators will meet in the cultural heart of New York City for hands-on workshops led by renowned teaching artists, keynote presentations by leaders in the field, inspiring performances, and rich discussions with colleagues from around the world.
VSA Intersections: Arts and Special Education Conference
August 7-8, 2018 | Atlanta, GA
The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts’ conference will convene professionals in arts education and special education to explore equitable access to art-based and arts-integrated instruction for students with disabilities. Attendees will share timely information and knowledge in research, practice, programs, and policy to help drive educational improvement for students with disabilities. Early-bird registration rate ends June 30th.
Fourth International Teaching Artist Conference
September 13-15, 2018 | New York, NY
Convenes teaching artists, organizations, and researchers, among others, to explore key issues of participatory arts practice. This year’s conference will explore the theme of “Artist as Instigator: The Role, Responsibility, and Impact of Artists in Global Communities” through workshops, keynote addresses, site-specific observations, and roundtable discussions.
2018 Educational Theatre Association National Conference
September 13-16, 2018 | Denver, CO
“We are all Artists” will explore the profession of the theatre educator and examine the intersection of classroom teaching and theatrical artistry through workshops and keynotes focused on how teachers and teaching artists can collaborate and complement one another’s strengths. Attendees will gain knowledge and tools to use with administrators and school boards to effectively communicate the value of theatre experiences.
2018 Call for Concurrent Session Proposals

The Arts Education Partnership (AEP) at Education Commission of the States announced a call for concurrent session proposals for the 2018 AEP Annual Convening: The Arts Leading the Way to Student Success. Arts and education leaders from across the nation will convene in Indianapolis September 12-13, 2018 to explore arts-centered solutions aimed at ensuring America’s young people have access to a high-quality education in and through the arts.

Dance/USA will host its 10th Annual Conference, which will span over four days and will include opportunities to network and learn from dance professionals including executive directors, artistic directors, emerging arts leaders, artists, agents, company managers, presenters, development and marketing staff, and more. Conference programming is shaped around issues of equity and justice, community and collaboration, audience development, and preservation and legacy.

Since 1971, NCSA has been the trusted forum for assessment practitioners to learn and reflect upon current and emerging trends in education and educational assessments. Each year the conference draws around 1,000 attendees including federal, state, and district agencies, test publishers, educational consultants, university faculty, and organizations supporting technology, education, and business. The conference takes place over a three-day period in June, including 60-minute symposia, 90-minute symposia, and 45-minute roundtables.

Supports both emerging and established writers who are writing about contemporary visual art. There are four categories; articles, blogs, books, and short-form writing.
