Washington DC - The IRS has released a series of FAQs related to the new tax credit that will be available for tax years 2018 and 2019 to employers that provide paid family and medical leave to qualifying employees.  The Employer's written policy must follow certain requirements to be eligible for the credit. Can Florida Employers Limit Firearms at Work?

Following the Parkland High School shooting, the subject of gun rights and employer weapon policies is important to recap. What should Florida employers know? Private employers are permitted to implement written policies that prohibit employees from bringing weapons into private workplaces. However, no employer may prohibit an employee from possessing a legally owned firearm when such firearm is lawfully possessed and secured inside a private motor vehicle in an employer's parking lot or garage when the employee is lawfully on the premises. Read FL Statute 790.251.

Can I grow my own medical marijuana? Judge says Yes - but hold on .....

Tallahassee, FL - Three weeks ago, a Florida judge agreed with Tampa's Joe Redner who challenged the medical marijuana regulations that prohibit him from growing his own pot.  He claims to need the raw plant for a treatment known as "juicing."  Mr. Redner has stage 4 lung cancer and was prescribed medical marijuana by an approved physician.  This week an Appeals Court blocked the "homegrown" ruling.  BTW, in April 2018, there were 103,460 Floridians in the Marijuana registry  and about 836 ounces is distributed each month at approved Florida dispensaries .

Florida Contractors: Tip #2 Use a Safety Equipment Sign Off form 

Pro Tip: When providing employees with OSHA mandated safety gear (safety glasses, high-vis vest, hard hats, etc.. ) obtain their written acknowledgement and maintain on file (including language about their responsibility to replace the item if lost through payroll deduction). Second, ha ve a written safety program that requires safety equipment use.   If an injury is caused by the knowing refusal of the employee to use a safety appliance provided by the employer, their compensation as provided under workers' compensation shall be reduced 25 percent. Read the Florida Statute 440.09(5)
