Worldwide Whiskey Associations Joining Together for 1st Ever 'W8 - Spirit of Collaboration Summit'
By Distillery Trail
In a world where talk of tariffs and international trade wars make the front page news almost daily, the world's whiskey makers are getting together to try to do something about it. There's no collusion here, just a gathering of like minded whiskey makers that want to make sure their friendly spirits can continue to flow and grow around the world.
The world's eight leading whiskey associations will gather at the Frazier History Museum along Louisville, Kentucky's 'Whiskey Row' on July 25 and 26, 2018 in a historic summit to discuss trade issues that threaten the growth of this iconic, international industry.
The gathering that has been dubbed the 'W8 - Spirit of Collaboration Summit' is being hosted and coordinated by the Kentucky Distillers' Association,...

Giving liquor a bad name
By Dominic Roskrow
A while ago I was walking through Glasgow Airport when I saw a bottle of single malt on offer.
It had a neck tag saying it had won a top award, so I bought it. But when I tasted it, it was a total disappointment - so much so that I rang a writing colleague who had been heavily involved with the judging of the award.
"Yes I know," he said. "The whisky in that bottle isn't the same as the whisky we tasted."
This is not an isolated incident. In another year I helped choose a world-beating whisky and was quoted when the award was announced.

Local spirits rise from the ashes
By Ian Anderson, San Diego Reader
Nine months after a fire, San Diego Distillery returns bigger and better
Back in September 2017, San Diego Distillery was poised to grow out of its small warehouse space in Spring Valley, CA. 7 Indianapolis distilleries, tasting rooms to try
By Amy Haneline and Liz Biro, Indianapolis Star
An Indiana Distillers Guild survey revealed last year that the state was about to see a small surge of distillery tasting rooms, thanks to a law change loosening restrictions to enter craft distilling. That seems to be happening, with the exception of Broken Beaker Distillery that closed in January.
Here are seven new distilleries or distillery tasting rooms in the Indianapolis area... Read more

Grain-to-glass experience opens up at Fond du Lac's Ledgerock Distillery
By Sarah Razner,
Fond du Lac Reporter
FOND DU LAC, WI - In the peaceful countryside of "the ledge," lights glow from cupolas atop a barn - blue if vodka is being distilled, green if gin. Follow the light, and you'll arrive at the newly-opened Ledgerock Distillery, which welcomes you in to try a sample.
The idea for Ledgerock Distillery came about five years ago as Jay Retzer and his family learned of the craft distilling movement. Started in 2008, the movement's products are fueled by grain, which the Retzers had plenty of - hundreds of acres, in fact. As farmers, their fields are filled with corn, soybeans and wheat, but because of the farm's size, there wasn't enough to provide for family needs, leading Retzer and his wife, Heidi, to work full-time as well as run the farm. German publisher Alba Collection Verlag releases updated maps of Scotland and Ireland
On all publications, the month and year of opening are noted for the distilleries newly opened after 2014. The development of the distillery landscape in Ireland over the last five years has been particularly impressive. To document this we have compared the map of 2013 with the map of 2018 in the booklet Irish Distilleries. The current edition of the new booklet is part of the premium version of the Irish Distilleries Map (420 x 600 mm [17 x 24 inch] size).
