MONDAY MEMO
"Everybody cut Footloose!" 7th grader Henry Griffin as Ren and 8th grader Ruby Rolfe as Ariel led the company, including 7th graders Josie and Lacey, through two fantastic performances this weekend. Ruby and Josie were also involved in choreographing the show.
Greetings!

Today is the official start to the 4th quarter of the year! Many middle schoolers have academic goals in mind to focus on, and parents who were at conferences know the teachers' suggestions and celebrations for the year. Think spring!

Happy Monday,
Nelia
NOTES
RETURNING STUDENT CONTRACTS
Contracts were mailed home last week. Please sign and return them with deposit by April 26. We have wait lists already in some classrooms and need to be sure of spaces available.
FOOTLOOSE!
We are so proud of the performances of our 6-8th graders this weekend in Footloose! Over the course of the Play Week experience they took ownership of nearly all elements of the production and it was great fun to see them take their bows to great applause. Michelle thanked all the parents from the stage at the end of Saturday's matinee for their thorough support of this annual project. In particular, there were parents who facilitated the students' efforts, like Jenna Heinrich (3rd grader Clint and 6th grader Nick) and Tricia Bunnell (1st grader Zoe and 4th grader Sofi) who led the costuming elective. Ellen Moore also used make-up and hairstyles to really show off the characters on stage. And Heather and Ross MacDonald and Sabine Watson made sure our bake sale table was ready for the long line of customers during and after both shows! Also, we are really grateful for the parents who helped us to strike the sets and haul them back to Riverside on Saturday: thank you to the Ebbett, Engle, Miller, and Alexander families! We love our supportive community that comes together to help and to celebrate our students.
VCAP STANDARDIZED TESTING
Students in grades 3-8 will be engaged with computer-based standardized testing this week and next. This impacts the schedule greatly, especially for middle school students who won't have as many classes as they're used to. Please help students to recognize the value of showing what they know and what they don't know. If students are absent during this time, they may miss class time later on in order to make up missed testing sessions. If you have any questions about this, please contact Nelia.
STUDENT COUNCIL FUNDRAISING FOR SOCCER JERSEYS
President Alexa Counter is working hard to fulfill her campaign promise of new, youth-sized jerseys for Riverside's soccer team. Bake sales, movie nights, and raffles have brought her close to the full cost of the jerseys.

Student Council is holding a raffle for a large gardening cart generously donated to us by VT Carts. Raffle tickets cost $10 each. The drawing will take place Thursday, May 9th, or the student council meeting prior to Mother's Day. We will only be selling 200 tickets, so buy some! We will be selling them on the porch at pick up and drop off times.
6-8 PROGRESS REPORTS
Middle school students will receive Progress Reports on Friday in their Advisory classes. Please review them together and contact teachers with any questions.
K-3 SWIMMING
K-3rd graders will be swimming this Friday. Please remember to pick up at the back of the SJA pool at 3:15.
FESTIVAL OF POETRY AND PROSE
Next Friday, April 12 will be the last day before vacation, and thus a Festival Day and an early dismissal at 12:30. The After School Program will run until 5:00 pm, please let us know in advance if your child will attend and when you anticipate picking up.

PreK-8th grade students will work in mixed age groups in a variety of creative writing challenges. Students will also be invited to shop at the Green Mountain Book Fair, charging purchases with your permission to their school store account. Please print, complete, and return this shopping permission slip . In the late morning there will be an opportunity read aloud and hear others read while enjoying snacks in the barn. We invite parents to join us for that,
SERVICE LEARNING FOR AREA ANIMALS
One of the Destination Imagination teams is working on a collaborative service project to support the Lyndon Dog Pound. Cindy Cady who runs the pound actually needs a lot of help getting rid of unwanted donations, and so the students would like to help her sell them for funds that she could better use to help care for the animals.
  • If you want a free dog/cat crate, or know someone who does, please contact Cindy at 626-PAWS. This would be very helpful to her because she has over 50 crates and is trying to clean them out!
  • If would like a dog bowl, for a donation of $5 to the Dog Pound, please email Mel Finn.
