Diocesan Profile Posted - Nominations Now Open
for the Tenth Bishop of Maine
Dear Maine Episcopalians,
Today, your Discernment Committee for the Tenth Bishop of Maine has released the diocesan profile and announced that nominations and applications for bishop diocesan are now being accepted. Self-nominations are welcome.
Please feel free to share the profile and the nomination information far and wide.
All forms and required attachments must be submitted electronically. Nominations will be accepted until Wednesday, May 30, 2018, and applications must be submitted on or before Monday, June 4, 2018.

Donations for Alfred's Fund
About ten years ago a young man named Alfred died accidentally.
He loved Christmas and regularly dressed up as Santa Claus and entertained island children in the schools and elsewhere. After his death, his mom started a Christmas fund, named for her son. Bobbi Billings quickly jumped in to help and Alfred's Fund now works every year to deliver Christmas presents to children who otherwise might not have any. There is a large decorated box in our foyer waiting for your contributions. Hopefully, the box can be filled many times over, as we all take advantage of sales that won't be available during the Christmas season.

Roadside Clean Up Thanks
Thanks to all those who participated in St. Brendan's roadside cleanup this past weekend. It has been our tradition to take responsibility for the road from the Nursing Home to the causeway.
Thanks to your help, we were again able to meet this responsibility.

Spring Clean-Up Day May 12
Volunteers are needed for the annual clean-up day in and around the church will take place Saturday, May 12th from 9-12noon. The more hands and volunteers who are able to help the better!
We'll be cleaning windows, changing out storm windows to screens, sweeping and cleaning up outside stairways and entrances, raking grassy areas, cleaning up fallen branches and preparing outside grounds for plantings.

Cynthia Bourgeault will be holding a Wisdom School again this year in Stonington the week of June, 3rd - 10th.
The program this year will feature the usual blend of daily teaching (by Cynthia Bourgeault, shared in the afternoon with Matthew Wright), meditation, chanting, sacred movement, and conscious practical work, as well as some unprogrammed time for exploring the natural paradise here and reconnecting with old friends. They are still accepting registrations, but registration will close soon.

Scripture Notes for the Sixth Sunday of Easter:
In the last weeks of Eastertide, our liturgical readings explore the results of the dying and rising of Jesus. Both the Gospel reading and the reading from 1 John speak of the self-giving love of God, revealed in Jesus' Passover from death to life, as the primary characteristic of our lives in Christ.
In this Sunday's reading from Acts, Peter and some other Jewish Christians were astounded to see Gentiles in the household of Cornelius receive the Holy Spirit just as they had on the Day of Pentecost. Peter's last reservations about welcoming Gentiles into the Church are erased and he and the other joyfully lead them to the waters of Baptism.
This Sunday was once called Rogation Sunday because medieval Christians went in processions (rogating) around the parish praying for the newly planted crops during this week. This is a good time to seek more effective ways to care for our environment and to witness that God's love is not only for humanity but also for the entire creation.
Joined together by God's spirit in baptism, bound up in the dying and rising of Jesus, related by creation to all the earth, we the people of God bring all our lives and one another into the saving love of God in Eucharist.

We pray for the victims of the violence of armed conflicts around the world. We pray for those made refugees by the violence of armed conflicts. We pray for the victims of terrorist attacks everywhere.
We pray for all who suffer the effects of domestic violence and the violence
of bullying in our schools.
We pray for all peacemakers, and all those who work for justice.
We pray for all those serving in the armed forces of our country, remembering, especially, Craig, Chris, Graham, and Caleb.
We pray for all who govern, and we pray for the concerns of our local community, remembering, especially, our children, our young people, and our isolated elderly.
We pray for Justin, Archbishop of Canterbury; Suheil, Bishop of Jerusalem; Michael, our Presiding Bishop; Steve, our Bishop; for the members of our vestry; and for all our members, whose ministries are varied and far-reaching.
In the Diocesan Cycle of Prayer, we pray for
the congregations of St. Martin's, Palmyra; St. Andrew's, Winthrop; and Winthrop Center Friends' Church (Quaker). For our Bishop, Stephen T. Lane, Ninth Bishop of Maine, in the 11th year of his consecration.
