Welcome back Bears!

This past week was our first school week since spring break and we have now completed week 1 of the last quarter to 2018-2019.

With the new month of April, we officially begin "testing season" as we will be administering state and/or district assessments to all grade levels into May. However, exam types and testing dates do vary. Our first assessment is this coming Tuesday, April 2 as our freshmen and sophomores will be taking the ELA Writing component of the FSA.

As a continuing campus safety reminder at the start of a new quarter, we ask all students and family members to say something right away should you ever see or hear of something suspicious or unusual. Please tell any teacher, staff member, coach or our school resource officers. Our students' safety when at school is of the highest priority, so I thank you for your continued awareness.

I would like to thank all of those parents and guardians that took time out to complete our 2019 parent survey. Once we receive the combined results, we will do our best to incorporate this feedback into our school improvement plans. The time spent on this was greatly appreciated.

Finally, for our Bears taking the FSA ELA Writing exam on Tuesday. You have done the work. Your teachers have you prepared. But remember to give yourself a last minute advantage. Get a good night's sleep Monday and arrive to school Tuesday morning on time having eaten a healthy breakfast at home or on campus. Last minute steps like these will give you that edge.

Have a great week!

You may wear a cap and gown from a past graduate, but you must purchase this year's pieces directly from them when they are here in May. The separate pieces are not available to purchase online.

Note: If you purchase online, you will put in your own address, but the cap and gown part will be delivered to the school in May. More info. to come on how and when to pick that up.

Monday's Motivational Moment!

THE ELEPHANT ROPE

A gentleman was walking through an elephant camp, and he spotted that the elephants weren't being kept in cages or held by the use of chains. All that was holding them back from escaping the camp, was a small piece of rope tied to one of their legs.

As the man gazed upon the elephants, he was completely confused as to why the elephants didn't just use their strength to break the rope and escape the camp. They could easily have done so, but instead, they didn't try to at all.

Curious and wanting to know the answer, he asked a trainer nearby why the elephants were just standing there and never tried to escape.

The trainer replied;

"When they are very young and much smaller we use the same size rope to tie them and, at that age, it's enough to hold them. As they grow up, they are conditioned to believe they cannot break away. They believe the rope can still hold them, so they never try to break free."

The only reason that the elephants weren't breaking free and escaping from the camp was that over time they adopted the belief that it just wasn't possible.

The lesson for our Bears? No matter how much the world tries to hold you back, always continue with the belief that what you want to achieve is possible. Believing you will become successful is the most important step in actually achieving it.
